My soft footed Texas horse is now on rocky ground up here. He is my retired barrel/drill horse. I had only front shoes on him in the past as I was only occasionally taking him for a spin on arena or sandy trail. But...he has worn down his hooves pretty badly in the back without those shoes up here. I decided I need to just keep tires on all the way around. BUT...he needs to grow a bit more hoof for the farrier to feel comfortable nailing them on.
I do have a pair of soft rides for him. Would it be feasible/doable to put those on and have them on for a couple of weeks to protect the hoof and allow a bit of growth so he can be shod again? Will they rub do you think? Has anyone done this?
My other option may be to research and try a glue on shoe...have any of you used those?

I'm not sure that soft ride boots are made to be worn around the pasture like that. Maybe they are, but there are boots you can buy that are made for that purpose.

My gray horse would probably benefit from living in his Soft Rides but he plays too much to wear them in a big pen or pasture. I've left them on him in small pens or stalls with no troubles, just dump the shavings & dirt out every day.
