I am 17 and graduating in two months, been riding horses since I was 4 years old. I need insight on interning for barrel racing. Would it be worth my time? I am not familiar with many intern programs but found one that specializes in colt starting/ and barrels. I would consider myself a well rounded rider as I did three day eventing for two years and hunters for 4 years and running barrels now for about 3 years. I want to get more experience with the barrel racing industry as a whole, in breeding, training, breaking, futurities, ect. My goal is to train and make barrel horses for clients. All I can think of is finding an internship program. Any ideas or insight would be much appreciated.

I know a few gals who have done internships and love them. Granted I dont know how much its helped them but its definetely given them experience. Just make sure you are interning with someone reputable. Ive seen a few barns offer them and they mainly do it for free labor vs an actual learning environment.

In an internship how exactly does that work... I've had a few ask me and I've never been set up to take someone in... but I think that's going to change where I will be able to.

Carlos, if you know Laura Lambert ask her. She does them yearly. I believe she has a specific school she likes to get hers from. The girls work for her during the summer. I think she gives them a room and their meals. If she pays them, it's fairly minimal (don't quote me on that though). She has them ride for her and they will run at jackpots. I know one of them is still with her and loved the experience. It's a win win for both of them.

I think pete oen took one before you could look into that. And I have a friend that helped Sabra O Quin but I dont know if that was more like she hired her or an internship or if they were friends or anything
