And my farrier can't make it out until the first of next week. Would you still run or not? I should be able to park where we won't have to encounter much if any gravel but I am a worry wart...

If the arena has good ground I wouldn't be terribly concerned. I feel for you though my mare threw one back shoe in a run and took off so much of her hoof the farrier cant get a new shoe on it so we are stuck without backs for awhile.

It depends on when the last shoeing was and how long the wall is.... They have to pivot on those back feet and a long wall without a shoe makes for bad splits when you do that.. I'm surprised both back shoes came off... I see something wrong there..

I just attended the Colonial National multi day show on a 100% gravel grounds facility. I haven't had a shoe on any horse for over two years. I won't ride them across the gravel, but they are fine. There's horses with shoes who 'owey' foot here and there on stray big rocks and no difference in my guys. I also do not get cracked feet from running barefoot. I do get the best traction a horse can get without shoes - just the perfect amount of bite and slide.

If your horse didn't tear anything up and is not sore, I wouldn't panic about back shoes. I've run Clifford with a front shoe missing a time or two and gotten along fine. I have pulled one back shoe to match the missing one and proceeded to win the rodeo on Chance but I'm not sure I would do it again knowing that he has one back foot that's prone to soreness.

Yeah... this is the deal... With the front feet.. Sometimes you can get away with just spreading the shoe and nailing it on... They have a round toe...
The back feet are a whole other ball of wax... They have a pointed toe and straight quarters and a farrier has to actually SHAPE the shoe.... I lost a few front shoes... But never a back one... You have to be doing something REALLY wrong to lose 2 back shoes...

Run her, I've just got done running in our state show with only 3 shoes. Mare decided to throw the left front. Made a clean run on only 3 shoes. I'd still run her. Especially is she threw back shoes, heck a lot of people only run in fronts anyways.
