Just curious if Cremello's eyelids should be tattooed just like paints who have white eyelids. I don't have a cremello, but if I ever cross Pacman on a Palomino/buckskin mare there is a possibility. Just curious everyone's thoughts.

No. The tattoos are for white-around-the-eye horses.  Cremellos are like any other horse and only have trouble under their white areas.

I'm asking because a friend of mine has a cremello mare who got cancer around both of her eyes. Yes it happens.

Yes it happens!! Had a mare get cancer in one then the other eye.. The tattooing was not done on this mare. Also the sunlight on non tattooed horses that are cremello, or big bald faces is hard hard on their eyes.. Which is the reason for the black tattooed eyeliner

I wouldn't do it.  Mine wears a Cashel fly mask with UV protection and does just fine.

I'm not a fan of leaving a fly mask on my horse all day.

Curious why you don't like to leave a fly mask on?

I put mine on around 8 in the morning and take it off when the sun starts to go down, usually around 6 in the evening.  I don't leave it on all day and night.

I would do it in a new york minute if I had a cremello. No hastle with fly masks, or sun screen, tattoo and for get it.

I have a cremello, I will not tattoo her eyelids. I have spoke with several vets and they say that it does not fully solve the potential problem of cancer of the eye. The best protection you can do is have them wear a fly mask all day.

All of my horses wear a fly mask when they are outside and it's above 45 degrees. They all come in the barn at night and I take them off. They stand and wait for there flymask to be put on in the morning. And all of my horses are sorrel/chestnut/brown. My darkest faced horse with no white will actually get sunburnt around her eyes and her skin will peel if she doesn't wear a flymask. With the mask, I have no problem. Not only does it protect them from the sun, but it protects them from the flies.
