The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	Why low fat? I feed mine low NSC, and high fat. Also horses can only go as fast as they are built to go, no feed can make them run faster then they are built for. A feed will help prevent lactic acid build up this occurs when the cells have run out of oxygen and muscle begins to become damaged. NSC is sugar so they get the instant high, and the crash. Fat is digested in the hind gut, and gives the horses a more constant supply of energy. Most of the time, the times are sped up generally in quicker flawless turns. Expert Posts: 2685	I have one bred out the wazoo with kin that are solid 1D horses but she is a 2D at best usually a 3D mare. Some horses just aren't meant to be fast. That being said I feel like its not fair to call a horse slow unless you know for a fact that horse feels 100% and is still not cutting the mustard. Feed wise I feed a high fat, high protein, low starch diet. Lots of forage, free choice minerals ect. I also feed THE supplements that I absolutely think has contributed to the way my horses feel. My 5yo is a whole nother horse on THE. She will never go another day without her MM.
