Location: MD | I have very easy keepers...well, did. Our landlord grew some corn right near a few turnouts they go into. and two nights ago they busted through a whole butt load of fencing and got loose in the middle of the night. thankfully nobody hurt, no damage done besides fence panels. I left them in their stalls that night because I was so irritated with them. Then I turn them out last night thinking, "they must have got real scared by something, my horses aren't this destructive to act this way! MUST have been a fluke!" Sure enough early this morning they broke through two panels and "de-rooted" a whole d*mn post that is 4 foot into the ground.... WTF. Isn't that just great.
I know corn is yummy to them, but they aren't eating the corn cobs that are growing they are just eating the leaves.... They have never acted this way and I'm totally embarrassed by their behavior. I would have preferred to move away then to tell my landlord my stupid horses did this again.
I;m not sure if this is a pity party, or I'm asking for advice... either way, Has anyone had their horses suddenly act this way? can I avoid it?
and yes they are in stall time out until I can get a round bale out there to hopefully distract them. and we are changing them to day turn out and very limited, since they conveniently ripped out all of the hot wire too and messed up the box. YAAAYYYY FOR HORSES  |

Well dang, I was going to suggest putting up a hotwire. That's one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to animals--when they don't respect fences and refuse to stay in  |

Location: oklahoma | I was going to suggest a hotwire too. Any chance that there's a dog or do y'all have big cats in Maryland, chasing them? I'd be worried about them eating so much. Corn is a carb but if it's old and fermented, it's a dangerous starch. |

nothing to dangerous, i do live closer to WV so there is mountainous animals you have to watch for. but there hasn't been a sighting of anything other than big wasps lately! I'm super concerned about the starch, but when i look at the corn stalks its just leaves gone, they don't even touch the actual corn..
I plan on buying a higher voltage level box very soon but I have to get through my finals first! WHY COULDN"T THEY HAVE DONE THIS IN TWO WEEKS! EEERG

On the hot wire. I had one that repeatedly disrespected the flat tape and/or the thin wire. BUT...we switched to the poly rope hot fencing (same charger) and you should have seen the reaction when he tested it! I laughed myself dizzy! You could see the spark leap to his nose and the thunderous fart he let out before doubling back on himself and hauling his fat red butt to the other side of the pasture... It was PRICELESS! He no longer gets out or pushes on the fences. He is a draft cross so he's tall and strong.
So...there's that option to consider along with the more powerful box. I chose the rope more for its visibility and it is MUCH easier to run and have it look nice and tight. And it has held up beautifully.
