Neither. If I need a tiedown, will be leather or nylon. |

Location: OK | I like cable tie downs mostly. the reason I don't like leather or nylon as much is because a horse can really lean into them with no punishment. So for a young horse I like something that makes him want to hold his head right, not that just keeps him from holding it wrong. If his head is high but his nose isn't out, I like a bonnet. I start with nylon and go from there. If his nose is out, then he gets a tie down. Really though, I would rather use a german martingale than anything else. |

| I use a solid wire tie down. It is small wire and has plenty of give. I only use it on occasion when I think my horse needs it. I have a friend that works at Josey Ranch and she uses one all the time on one horse. She is about the most consistent rider I know so it gets the job done. |

Location: Texas | When I have to use a tiedown I like the rope head setter tiedowns. They have a sliding rope noseband.
They aren't my favorite things to use, and I don't use one to train on a horse…but some horses just work better with them on. The horse I run is a freight train going to the first barrel and having that rope head setter on her has helped keep it together. We have been doing really well so it's not coming off. When I bought her she came with a cable tiedown and she had the cable split like a brow band and a noseband on the same tiedown. I took that off ASAP and switched her to the rope one and it's been awesome.
I had a steel L&W tiedown that had a jointed noseband, so it was two pieces. I didn't like it, never used it, and sold it.
We do have a steel noseband tiedown that is a solid piece, and have used it on the occasional older kid horse who had habits that weren't going to change. It hasn't been used in years, but if I had a really strong horse who needed to back off I would put that on. Haven't needed to in years. |

Leather or wrapped rope.. Never have seen the need to use something as harsh, in my opinion, as wire.. |

ditto.. .. and especially the young ones.. they dont have the strength to carry hisself as needed and to slap a wire on him to make him is not imo correct training.. |
