Location: midwest mama
I have a friend who is really having trouble with her saddle. She bought a used saddle and the stirrups are way too free swinging so when she turns around a barrel her feet are going way (and I mean WAY) behind her. Her horse turns a little more on her front end, and it is really effecting her balance when her feet go back. She really likes the saddle otherwise, and it fits her horse really good. I suspect that because the saddle was pretty "used" the fenders and stirrup leathers are pretty worn and are moving a lot more than usual.
She would like to order a new version of this saddle, but doesn't want to spend the money unless she can for sure feels that it will work for her. Several pro barrel racers suggested that she bind the stirrups forward a little to stabilize them and try it that way, but she doesn't have a clue how to do that and neither do I. Can anyone explain to us how to "bind" the stirrups forward so she can try it?
Hi purplemoon828 - thank you for sending a link on how to bind stirrups, but it doesn't go anywhere. I keep getting the error message. Can you please check it and post it again? Thank you so much!
