Don't know about DJ saddle, but I was taught to snug the cinch just enough to keep the saddle from rolling and jip (trot) your horse a few times in a circle around you and then where the saddle sits after- that's where the sweet spot is. Cinch up and ride. My Martin Ironhorse with the adjustable cinch plate sat just behind the shoulders.

I set my Pozzi's behind the shoulder and when I bought my 1st one I had a tree fit to him so I could get the best tree for him. I have a couple of them and that is where they both sit.
