My friend has a college age daughter I am concerned about. She has a vein in her leg that is very swollen and bulging to the point you can see it. She is complaining that her leg hurts. This condition seems to return about every 3 months. She saw a doctor for this before and they told her not to worry and that is is probably caused by her birth control pills. Has anyone heard of this or had any experience with this? I'm thinking she needs to see another doctor. Sorry this post is NOT barrel racing related but there always seems to be someone on this forum with valuable info no matter the subject.

I would be getting a second opinion. I have varicose veins and I have never had those symptoms other than a couple of enlarged veins. I have had leg pain and was sent to get an ultrasound that showed a small clot in an "unimportant and insignificant capillary". That was still scary to me:)

I would have go to a differant doctor. It could be a blood clot. My left leg swelled up twice the size of my right leg in about 15 minutes one night doing chores and I just about could not get my jeans off it was so tight. I felt like i had a charley horse in my leg. My wife made me go to the hospital and i was there for 3 days. I have not had a problems since but vein in my leg will hurt and swell up sometimes now. It is nothing that she should take lightly.

Her leg doesn't swell, just the vein swells up and sticks out. It is a huge vein that runs nearly the full length of her leg. This has happened 3 times or more over the past year. When it started she was taking the pill, now she has the implant in her arm. Regardless, I just spoke to her dad and they are going to the ER. Personally, I am very worried about this girl and she is a total sweetheart.

Please keep us updated. Seriously does sound like a blood clot and would be life threatening... She should not be on any kind of hormone based birth control whether it be oral or implanted. Major contributor to blood clots. Prayers going out to this young lady.
