Has anyone got buck stitching on there saddle? I'm having a saddle made and I'm thinking about using buck stitching. I love the looks of it on halters and stuff but not sure if I will like it on a saddle. If your saddle has it can you post a pic please. I tried to google it but didn't have much luck.

Oh! You need to go to Pinterest and search for buckstitch! Tons of photos and Double J has the most awesome buckstitch saddle EVER! It's a Pozzi. I'd kill for it! So glad it's finally coming back in STYLE again.

I had a buckstitched saddle when I was a kid. The buckstitch started to wear out in different spots.

Like STPG said...It's a style that is now making a comeback. I used to make hand tooled belts and at that time having your name on the back was popular along with the buckstitching.

Might have to copy and paste into a browser.

My daughter's new saddle.   If I did buckstitching I would try not to put it where there are contact points such at where your leg fits on the saddle. Hers is already showing signs of wear plus the white is rather blue from her jeans.

That's exactly what I'm worried about. It will show signs of wear really fast and it will show dirt really bad or just look dirty.

Buckstitching is timeless in my opinion and always classy no matter what era we live in!! I have been saving my pennies, like a squirrel savin nuts for winter, to buy something buckstitched this year at the NFR.  I'm also blessed to have a father in law that can do some pretty mean leather work and I have buckstitched spur straps on request:)

Oh dear.....to be THAT young.......LOL

However, as has already been mentioned, the buckstitching tends to wear out and break in places of friction...i.e fenders, etc.

I have a Billy cook that I bought new in 1974 that is full buckstitched. I will dust it off tomorrow and take picture. I think I have ridden about 10,000 hours in that saddle. It still looks good but he buckstitching has worn in a few places.

No problem! I had the DJPro bars with the Pozzi topside. Fits everything I have used it on so far! My sons saddle is the Pro and fits a major number of back styles but I like the fit of the pozzi for me. Best of both! Love that Double J can do this!

 Bellamy Brothers!

Redneck girl got her name on the back of her belt
She's got a kiss on her lips for her man and no one else
The Coyote is howling out on the prairie
First comes love, then comes marriage!

And I pray that someday I will find me a redneck girl
Gimme a, gimme a, gimme a redneck girl

Gimme a, gimme a, gimme a redneck girl
You've got to gimme a, gimme a, gimme a redneck girl,
Gimme a gimme a gimme a redneck girl.

I still have mine from the 1970's.  Silver letters too, spell my name.  My daddy bought it for me in 1974 for Christmas and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I still think I need to get it out and wear it.  Might bring back the fashion.

This makes me smile.. In the early 90's I was still using an old buck stitched saddle...It fit me and my horse.

Some fashionista Snag rode up to me, and was quite snarky.. I remember the words

"Keep riding that old junker.. maybe someday dark oil and buck stitching will come back"  She had a bleached light leather saddle with silver.. that was all the rage.

LOL

I still like my old out of date tack that works

I LOVE buckstitch. I have an old Tex Tan from the 70s that has been used and none of the buckstitch has worn off or faded. It is super comfortable and it really looks good on my sorrel with chrome. I will say I am picky about cleaning my tack, every few years I take a toothpick to the corners of the buckstitch to get out any dirt that has accumulated.

I love the new Double Js with the teal buckstitching, one day it will be in my tack shed!

Nevertooold - 2014-09-02 10:55 PM I'll have to see if I can find one of my old belts and I'll take a picture and post it along with my Lame pants..LOL

You are telling your age, now.  I still have all my colored buckstitched belts that I wore in TYRA.  I wore the Lame pants, too.  Like wearing and riding in a skin diving suit.  Slid all over the saddle!!

Since I have no idea what your talking about I think we need to see a pic.
