Location: Midland, MI | My fiance and I are looking to trade in our two trucks for 2 decent priced lower mileage diesels. Just want to stick with 3/4 tons. I know there are certain year models on certain makes to stay away from. What are the good ones? The bad ones? We know the 2003 Chevy duramax has injector issues, that's what we currently have. |

| I'm REALLY loving my 2012 Dodge 3500. It doesn't feel like I'm driving a truck, even though it's a tank. It's so smooth when you haul, and I'm even getting 18-20 MPG.. Unforunately I'm selling it because we just bought a house, but I wish we could keep it. I was a Ford girl before the dodge, but nothing drives like the dodge. |

Location: lone star state | We have an 09 dodge 3500 cummins that pulls great an have had no problems. Avoid the 05 ford diesels. We also have a 2012 hemi 2500 that is a great truck for day to day use but doesn't pull like the diesels. |

| I believe the 04 and 05 Fords had issues
06/07 Dodges have problems with front end ball joints and U joints needing replacement often - I can give you more details if you want 'em.
06 and 09 Chevy Duramax's have all been good for my family - we pull livestock trailers over the Rockies multiple times a summer without problem :)

| The troubled fords are from 2003.5-2007, they have the 6.0.
Im leaning towards gas after all the nightmares i hear from my friends... one example is a 2014 cummins that shuts its self down at anytime! |

| The only one I can say to stay away from is the 2011 Chevy Duramax. We have one, bought it in February of this year, have put 4K miles on it and its been in the shop 7 times now. All related to the DEF system. Luckily its all been covered under warranty, but they can't seem to get the issues fixed and fixed right. Truck has 60K miles on it. Its a shame!! |

Location: Never in one place long | A few months ago, we got rid of our 2004 Dodge 1 ton. it was a PIECE of CRAP!!! Injectors went out of it FOUR times which was several thousand dollars each time, the ac didn't work good, the throttle positioning sensor went out and there was something not right about the trainy, sometimes it was fine and others you had to put the pedal to the floor to get it to shift. Maybe we got a lemon but I'd never buy another like it. |

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Duramax 3/4 ton with 110,000. Haven't done any major work to it so far. Thankfully, I have a little Hyundai car I drive everyday to work. I too would not buy a new diesel nowadays. Too many complaints about the new fuel systems. I would buy a Chevrolet truck with a gas engine. |

The EPA has made things very difficult for diesels....however, I still wouldn't drive a gas rig to pull more than a 2 horse. Tried it once and it was AWFUL! AWFUL! I called it the gutless gas guzzler POS...it was brand new when I bought it and I've never been so happy to get rid of a piece of junk. I would get 8 mpg pulling a 2 horse and literally got 6 my last trip with the 3 horse.
We bought a 2014 dodge a few months ago and love it. 3500 dually, does it get the milage of the old models, no... but it does get 12-13 pulling our 3 horse and is super powerful. Doesn't have enough miles on it to be broken in yet.

I had some issues with it, but once we realized it had a programmer used on it we flashed it back to stock and have had NO issues since then. I haul 5-6 horses with my gooseneck and 3 horses with the bumper pull. I average about 18-21 pulling extreme grades. I think the lowest mileage I ever had was around 16mpgs. I just love the way it hauls. Although since we bought the new one when I switch back to the dually I wish I had more acceleration in my 7.3. it has 160k miles on it
Our 2008 F350 crew cab diesel is lifted on 37's. I haul my 3 horse trailer with 3-4 horses in it. It has crazy awesome acceleration, pulls like a dream, handles great and smooth shifting. I just HATE the fuel mileage!!!!! ugggggg makes me cringe when we fill it up to go anywhere. The only mechanical issue we have had this far is a leak in the radiator which is normal for that truck. It has right at 35k on it |

Location: Bandera, TX | I'll be headed down to town this week to trade in my 2011 Chevy HD3500. The DEF systems have been pushed way to fast for the BIG 3!
They have many issues due to the UREA system. The trucks are running hotter (thus all the HP we now have) to scrub the exhaust. This means trucks engines will not last near as long. Forget those 200000-300000. mi pickups-thing of the past. If you have a truck pre-DEF KEEP IT! If you need a good tractor you better get it purchased prior to Tier 4! Not many Tier 3's left and if you thought the choke was bad on the trucks get in that 80 HP tractor Tier 3 vs 4 and feel the difference!
I wanted to do a delete on my pickup but...my friends in higher places told me the DPS troopers are training on their new emissions equipment. My luck, I'd be the first with the 10K ticket.

| I love my 2006 dodge 3500 with a 5.9 imhqvema.proframmer and 5 inch exhaust andt cold air intake. But i heard in the new ones you cant do one with a programmer. But i know it screems. I will not buy a new one. Fordm dodge, or,chevy.

LOL we have had it since it was brand new and well we only lost about 2mpg with the big tires! Bahahahaha what a headache. We are doing a delete on it in a few months and changing out the injectors. Dump 2k into it to hopefully get 5 more mpgs lol |
