Location: MD | aside from firing my farrier and giving them bute, what else can I do for them?
he botched 3 horses in the appointment mine are particularly bad. 
ETA: they got trimmed on thursday and they are still tippy toeing around :(

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I had a mare that limped badly for about 10 days and took over 3 weeks to stop being gimpy--insult to injury, I was trying to sell her at the time. Never had one be sore that long before. I guess it happens to everyone--that is the only one my farrier has shorted since he's been doing my horses.
I used Venice turpentine, magic cushion and bute to make her more comfortable.

| Get hoof boots or soft rides as I am guessing the horse is bruising or has already bruised her feet. These bruises can later turn into abscesses |

Location: Kansas | Magic Cushion and then wrap feet with a newborn baby diaper and lots of duck tape.
Or, go the cheaper route and spray iodine on the feet, then put a diaper and duck tape on. You will probably notice a difference after a day with iodine and magic cushion is complete magic. But it's pricey and iodine is easier to find usually. |

| The horse needs blood flow to help with the damage that could be caused by trimming to short. NitrOxide has been sold for these problems and has been around since 1998 and has saved thousands of horses from the trimming getting worst (i.e laminitis). |

Location: Outside of Larryville, KS | i have used Absorbine gell massaged into the sole and over the heel bulbs. I have seen decreased tenderness after just a couple days of doing this. I apply it thick and massage it in with my hands. I also massage the coronet band to increase circulation to the foot and help it grow a little quicker. I do this everyday when I am having tenderness issues, my horse is barefoot and flat footed and it works fairly well for him. |

| First, I would call the farrier and explain that he sored three of your horses. He needs to know that he screwed up.
Then, I would expect that he would make it right by putting shoes on free of charge until your next appointment. Its his fault they are sore; he needs to fix it. |

i agree but, I've already fired him a few hours ago because of this and the lack of ability to call people back. I'd rather spend money and have our new lady do something with them then someone who is already irritated that he got called out for botching 3 horses in less than an hour..
Nobody is more angry and upset than me over this. And he got the full wrath of my German temper  
Since I have Iodine and diapers on hand, I will try that tonight see if it helps. They are on stall rest with a ridiculous amount of bedding. My poor babies. We just got all of the fence put back up after them destroying it to get to corn stalks, then we had colic scares, Then to put the icing on the cake one of them has developed a pretty serious fungus or case of isolated hives today that is under his armpit. I can't catch a break this month. Someone wake me up when its christmas?  |

Location: Texas | My farrier cut my good mare short once.. she doesn't grow much foot, especially on the back end.. But she was floating her back feet bad for several weeks and her stride was all jacked up. I ran at the July 4 Wrapn3 and she ran like crap. That's when I figured it out. I didn't fire him because he's RARELY soared a horse up of mine, but I did bring it up.. He's extra careful with her now.. It took me painting her feet and just waiting for them to grow out. |

Not me....I WOULD NOT want that person anywhere near my horses again if they sored them like that. And yes I did have that done to my good horse, he was so sore even shoes didn't help. |

Honestly you should be amazed at how much iodine helps. Several years ago I used a shoer to trim my old gelding and he took too much sole off to the point that Mr. Barefoot Joker was gimping around. Shoer told me iodine would help and darned if he wasn't right. He also wasn't my shoer for too long but that's another story. Be sure to use a lot of duck tape around the toes because that's where the diaper will wear through fastest, and you'll probably have to redo the diaper & iodine once a day but in the grand scheme of things, that's pretty inexpensive treatment. I bought a pack of diapers two years ago and even though I wrap feet anytime one of mine loses a shoe plus anytime they look a little off, I still have about half the pack left. |
