Location: Texas | Okay gals and guys what do you think? I'm looking at trailers and 2 actually 3 have come across my radar. I will be pulling with a 2008 Ford Expedition V8 and/or a F250.
So here are my choices thus far:
1992 Sooner, 2 horse straight load. Tack room under mangers and walk in tack room. Looks like it is in really good shape, breaks, lights, just redone. Under $5K.
2013 CM Dakota, 2 horse slant, walk in tack, Very good, like new condition, Under $5K
1998 Sundowner 3 horse slant. I like it and wouldn't mind having one extra spot, but I want to be mindful of weight on the Expedition. $6K
All of them look to be in good shape. The Sooner looks like a better trailer (updgrades) in side than the CM but the CM is still really nice. I don't know a thing about CM's only that I do see a lot of them. Thanks!

Location: Oklahoma | CM's are steel trailers. Sundowner's I don't like the structural composition. Hands down Sooner. Don't let the age scare you. They were very well made. I have a 1997 Sooner and it is well built. |

I agree. That Sooner will last forever. |

Location: North Dakota | I have a 98 Sundowner 3 horse slant and love my trailer - I have heard bad things about them on here and that scares me! Mine has held up very good and I have not yet had any problems with it! |

Location: Texas | We had a Sundowner gooseneck and it was a really good trailer, but it was a TANK to pull. lol I like the Sundowner too, but am worried that the weight might be pushing it since it's a 3 horse.
The Sooner is probably my favorite, but it's not slant load. It does have a ramp though. I don't know, I don't know!! If I go look at it hopefully they will agree to hook it up and let me pull it a few miles (with them with me of course).

Location: North Dakota | Few things, do you plan to keep it forever?? I had a cm in highschool and it was a nice, lite trailer, sold it for what we paid for it. Steel doesn't bother me a bit other people it does.......I would go for the newer cm-everyone says that certain trailers hold their value but you're looking at 20 year old trailers.....if you use it for a few years you will not have any value left in it. Plus, I hate straight loads.

| I had a steel CM and I was VERY happy with it. Later on, got an aluminum CM, no complaints on it either.

Location: In The Snow, AZ | We have had an older CM 3 horse, an '04 CM 4 horse gooseneck and now have a '14 CM 3 horse BP. For the price, they are exceptional trailers. We have always been very happy with the quality. |

Location: Texas | Not sure if I will keep it forever, but there is a good chance. In the end the Sooner is 20 years older. For those with a CM, does anyone pull with an SUV? |

| OLD 2 horse straight load vs. NEW 2 horse slant load? I can't even begin to compare that. If you ever need to haul anyone else's horse by chance as well, they probably won't get into a straight. Straight loads are harder on horses too. Long distances will be difficult. I have a 3 horse steel WW (comparable to CM). I had a 2 horse straight load WW prior. There's such a huge difference. Slant load all the way. AND it's new. I would NEVER suggest hauling with a SUV. Especially live animals. F250 is perfect Even a 1/2 ton would pull a 2 horse trailer. |

This! I pull an '01 CM Dakota 2h slant. Love it, but I am looking to upgrade to LQ. I love having a "big" dressing room and the trailer is solid. I pull it (with one horse) with my 2014 Silverado 1/2 w/out any issues. I think my dad gave $3500-3800 brand new (had to wait on it to be made) and had a trade in offer of $3000 for it. I won't get rid of it, though. It's wayy too handy to have for vet trips to get rid of. My only complaint is that it's 6' wide and my appendix is too big to fit comfortably so he gets the entire trailer. If I'm pulling two horses then he can get the back slant just fine, but not the front. |

I think you're probably right on the straight vs. slant. As far as the SUV, it's rated to pull that much, built on 3/4 ton frame and I'm adding airbags and a new trailer brake system. I also haul on pretty flat ground. I pulled years with a 1/2 ton 2 horse so I don't think the Expedition will have a problem with the 2, but the 3, well I do have some concerns about that and will probably cross it off my list. |

Yep, leaning more and more towards the CM. |
