Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | There was a high school rodeo today and a girl was running back from the 3rd barrel and her horse started bucking and threw her head first in to the 3in thick steel gate. She has been airlifted to a bigger hospital with a very bad head injury. The announcer said she was ok but I knew there was no way. Her and her family and rodeo family need all the prayers they can get. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | Prayers are working! They got her to the big hospital and her injuries are bad but not near as bad as the small hospital originally said. She has a fractured skull but it doesn't go all the way through and she doesn't have a brain bleed like they were originally told at small hospital. They are waiting for her to wake up now to further evaluate her but if nothing changes she will be able to come home tomorrow.

That I'm not sure about. I didn't ask. I'm guessing they have her on some meds that are causing her to be sleepy for the dr to say she can come home tomorrow. |

Oh ok, for a min. there I thought she was still out from the accident, and I was thinking why would the doctors let this poor girl go home the next day if she was still out. But being on meds makes more sense, prayers that she will be just fine in a few days... |

Location: The South | TessBelle, please please ask her family to make sure the drs aren't rushing discharging her home. Short version of my story: this time last year, my horse fell with me at home and I hit my head really bad. The second hospital sent me home because my CT was clear and I could walk. I had absolutely NO short term memory (would repeat things within seconds), my balance was so bad I couldn't walk without assistance, and my left pupil was HUGE (which should've been a big clue that something was wrong). The drs told my husband that I wouldn't "be myself" for a couple of weeks and I would need to "take it easy". So I go home. Wake my husband up in the middle of the night, convinced I'm at work, and yelling crazy things. Things got worse so my husband took me back and demanded a MRI. Turns out I had a Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury. I'm still recovering!!! I could have gotten in my car when I was 'out of it' and killed myself or someone else. They should NEVER have sent me home! I had to go to inpatient rehab for a week after I stayed in the hospital (the second time) for a week. Sorry this ended up being so long, I just don't want anyone to go through what we went through just because things don't look too bad on the surface. Many prayers for this cowgirl, I hope it isn't serious at all! |

Tess is there any updates on this girl?
Yes. Sorry I've been in and out of airplanes today. She is home and doing ok. She was able to get up and walk this morning. Her head hurts of coarse but she has quit throwing up and sounds to be much better. She was very very lucky. I was sitting with the owner of the arena and his daughter. He said if they would have had the gate latched it would have been much much worse. They only had it pushed closed so when she hit it did give some but the gate is 3in thick steel. Another couple feet she would have hit the concrete wall. It's bad but it could have been much worse. |
