I need some help! I'm having problems especially on the 1st barrel (left barrel) the 2nd is not as bad but still having the same type of problem were his motor just wants to stop. Anyways so as I come into the first barrel, we have a good speed then BAM! he puts the breaks on its almost like he is rating to much. coming to the first barrel I have to push him really hard like 2 strides before I sit to turn the barrel. turning around the barrel if I stop ridding even slightly in my body he drops down to a really fast scrambling trot/weird lope if I let him. so I need some ideas on how to keep his hind end active as we turn around the barrel.

Hard to say without video. But I would guess he is sore in hocks or stifles.

Hard to give advice without knowing the background of the horse... such as age? is he finished? has his performance declined or he is still being trained... how good of a handle does he have as in does he know how to collect himself and shift his weight back to set up properly for the turn... etc
