I got maybe 150lbs of uncleaned whole oats a few days ago from my in laws. Ive just started adding whole oats to my renew gold. But I bought a bag of race horse oats from the feed store that were obviously cleaned. Now ive got this big barrel of the field oats. I was running them thru my hands yesterday and they are extremely EXTREMELY dusty and I did notice some mouse droppings here and there YUCK! Im not wanting to feed these oats at all. But before I tick my hubby off by telling him this, is there a way to clean these oats before I feed them? The dust that comes up makes me cough and I syre dont want to cause any issues on my horses. My in laws feed these oats just as they are but ....lets just say we have very different views on horse care , feed etc....

When I used to grow my own oats, I used a local seed cleaner to triple filter and bag them.  No way would I feed them straight from the field unless I washed them somehow.  (Mouse poop sounds like a storage problem). Ask your local co-op/farm store who does seed cleaning and then ask for triple filtering.
