| I have a horse living here that seems to have a stilfe problem. If you watch the youtube video titled Chance locking stifle that is what he is doing, just not that extreme. I have not taken him to the vet but a free chiropractor (a lot of barrrel racers use her) looked at him and did an adjustment... Helped for a very short time... First is it fixable, and what does it take time and cost wise.
ETA: Chance is not the horse I'm talking about is just what it looks like.

| Do you have video of your horse? It's kind of hard to judge or place an opinion without seeing the actual horse ....
I would first and foremost go to an equine vet with lameness experience. I'm not sure where you are at, but there are reputable ones that many of us on here have used. There could be more going on than just a locking stifle; ie - hocks, tendons, inflammation in a joint, etc.
Good Luck! |

Location: Missouri | Google "upward fixation of the patella" and you can read tons of information. Definitely see your vet. It could be related to another issue (like hocks). He might be a surgery candidate, although some bb's will argue against cutting the patellar ligament. There are also splitting and blistering options, but I don't know if they are enough for one that completely locks. Cost will depend on your location, veterinarian, Rx, etc. You can try hill work and cavalletis. Also, keep the horse fit and turned out. |

| Thanks I don't have a video of HIM but the one on youtube is just like what he does. I have a dumb phone and no way to video this horse. He's not mine he just lives here keeping Floyd company and would be an extra if I thought I wanted to ride with a friend... But with this issue I don't feel he is safe to ride. His owners are in the middle of a huge move, from Minnesota to Oklahoma, I'm just trying to have as much information as possible. That way when they get here they can make an informed decision. |
