Any ideas? I have a 4 year old with a constant sweat spot just above her shoulder and below her withers. She doesn't seem sore or move away when I touch it. Even when not hot outside, this spot is always wet. Only on 1 side as well. Thanks for any input.
My gelding has a sweat spot in this area from an old wound. It happened before we got him, but he must have laid that spot open pretty good because there is still a decent sized scar there. It sweats quicker than the rest of his body, but does not sweat constantly. It doesn't bother him in any way. I've actually seen another horse with a similar injury that sweats just like mine does.
Had a mare with one near her withers. Was like that when we bought her, stayed there for a couple of years. We were at a clinic one day and the instructor thought she needed a chiro. He set her rib and the sweat spot disappeared and never came back.
I just attended a customer vet education event on chiropratic and they showed a slide with a sweat spot which she said is a signal of an area that isnt working properly- like a pinched nerve (as metioned above) or bone damage or a locked area.
I have 3 of them at my place right now. A gelding who hit the fence this summer and had 3 deep wounds after he healed he sweats in a large area in line with shoulder. The muscle had been damaged from the impact so I assume it is nerve damage. I have a mare who got kicked in front of shoulder and she has a very small area that sweats all the time and then just got a training horse in who had a rub mark from a breast collar it also sweats. I think they are all just nerve damage and have had chiros work on them. They don't seem to be going away but horses are sound.
