Has anyone taken the gamble on the DTF breeding without a live goal guarantee? We are considering it but I'm really hesitant. The mare would be a 13 year old maiden. Thoughts?

I believe if you buy from MJ farms you can get cheaper semen but no LFG.
To the OP- I haven't done it…haven't gotten to breed to him at all. I would be scared about not getting it, and my gut says I would rather save up and pay the full price for LFG

I've had a few mares that I wouldn't have been afraid to try with a no LFG breeding. But personally, there is NO WAY I would risk it with a maiden mare of ANY age.

I was warned about the lesser priced semen and some people who had dummy foals born. Mr. and Mrs. Burt were wonderful people to deal with and Royal Vista Southwest is a first class operation. My maiden mare took on the first attempt.

^ This. My previous neighbors bred to him 4 times and got 4 foals (none maiden mares) and they had the LFG.
DTF is dead as well...are you saying they didnt save frozen semen on Mr Fancy Fame
Wilford Brimley bought him from Ron because he "was pretty" not to use for breeding - this is what his son, John Brimley told me. So I doubt Wilford saved any frozen semen. And if I remember correctly Wilford didn't have him for very long before he had to be put down. As far as Ron goes, I'm not sure. But you don't hear of any younger Fancy Fames anymore. Don't quote me on that though, I don't want to spread anything false.

We have used the semen from MJ farms quite a bit with no issues vis ICSI. There is also a breeding farm in central California that has been breeding client mares with it for ET & to carry and had pretty good success. I still have a few straws of my own to use next year. Not sure what I'm going to use it on my best, easy breeder is a DTF daughter. If you're worried about the LFG, get the embryo insured. I would do it even if there was a LFG.
