Location: Pacific Northwest | Probably not something we discuss often here, but this is getting pretty serious, like I think I need to go to the doctor. I'm a naturally small person, the most I have ever weighed is 130 but my normal weight is 115. People always tell me "you're so tiny" but I was just small, I wasn't skinny. I've got fat, I have a butt and thighs (no thigh gap here, even right now), etc. But about 2 weeks ago I was FaceTiming a friend and I was literally DISGUSTED by the sight of my own face, my cheeks are so sunk in and hollow, I look like I'm sick. I weighed myself and I was 108.
I made a conscious effort to start eating more and I weighed myself last night and I weigh 104!? I don't even know what to do! And I'm so tired of people telling me to just "eat all the things that are bad for you" because if I eat TOO bad it makes me feel physically sick. I can't eat a lot of greasy or fast food.
My girlfriend and I broke up September 2nd and yes I was very sad and stressed in the days following and I didn't eat, but I don't feel like that now so I don't understand why I'm still losing weight.
I was thinking of making of meals that I knew would equal 2,000 calories in a day plus adding maybe like extra protein shakes? What are some healthy but high-calorie foods? Or anyone know of good protein shake mixes?
And what kind of tests should I have ran if I go to the doctor?
Another part of my problem is I have a hard time eating a lot now. If I scramble 3 eggs, I have to literally force myself to finish those eggs.
It just really hurts my feelings how people I'm not even close to just walk up to me and tell me I'm too skinny and need to eat more. It makes me feel bad about myself because I'm trying. I would never walk up to someone and be like "you've gained weight, you need to exercise more".
I wish I was horse, I've got beet pulp and rice bran |

Location: Four Corners Colorado | High calorie shakes. Do whole milk Raw if you can get it! Raw egg yolks like 3-4, coconut oil 2-3 Tbs, extra cream, Protien powder. I like Chocolate. Have two a day. Eat lots of carbs they plump you out in no time.
I eat high fat, average protein and very low carbs to maintain my weight or lose weight. If I want to gain I simply add carbs I can pack on 5-8 lbs. in a week from just adding some bread (even gluten free) with my meals.
You probably need to eat 2500 - 3000 cals a day or more to gain.
Make sure you eat healthy fats and btw they aren't veggie oils. Stick with Butter, coconut, lard, those types of things.

| LOTS of types of Nuts are high in fat, but not terribly unhealthy. Peanut butter is the same way. Drink Whole milk to add fat, use real butter, fry with Canola oil. Avacados are high in fat. Cheese is good for fat and calcium. Try to figure out your activity level to determine how many calories you use throughout the day. You may need to bump up to 3000 calories per day for intake, as 1500-1800 is usually a healthy diet range with 2000-2500 being normal. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | Been there done that. My problem was that I just didn't want to eat. I was never hungry. Go to the doctor first and get tests run to make sure there's noting wrong with your body. Then try the ensure shakes. They kept weight on me. Try foods that aren't good for you but not greasy or high in sugar. Those things are bad for more than just your weight. Find bad foods that you like and eat them but don't over do it. I gained my weight back plus about 20lbs so eventually you'll get it back. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Don't even try the junk food diet. Up your healthy fats and protein level. And by healthy fat, I mean the kind that's naturally occurring, including animal fat. Don't try to stuff yourself. Eat until you're full and then try to eat again 2 or 3 hours later. Anything else is going to make you miserable and be counter-productive. My mom used to try to get me to drink ensure, and I guess it's fine if you're desperate, but it was so sugary it made me nauseous.
when I was scouting cotton, I would be down around 110 by the end of the summer and had to build myself back up in the winter. Any kind of stress would make the weight loss worse, and I was down to 100 pounds a couple of times. (I'm 5'7"). Don't have that problem anymore. LOL |

| I agree with getting a CBC and checking your thyroid levels.
You can eat peanut butter on stuff to increase calories. It is hard to eat healthy with a ton of calories :/ |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Let me just start by saying I understand. I've been thin my entire life. Its genetic. My dad is tall and thin too. That being said...I went through some stress a while back and I too got down really low. I am 5' 9" and I was down to 115#. People who would NEVER comment on a large person'e weight thought nothing of making comments about my being too thin. Saying things like "You look like a cancer patient". Ugh...that one hurt. People have no sympathy for us the way they do for overweight folks. Just ignore them. They don't even realize how horrible they are being.
So...what did I do? I seldom get hungry. Over the time period when I was stressed and truly not eating much my stomach likely shrunk down in size. Think of it like a bariatric patient that has a surgically created smaller pouch. They lose weight because they fill up very quickly. That's essentially how I had trained my stomach. So I felt like I was eating enough even when I wasn't. I couldn't work out AT all or I'd drop more weight. That wasn't acceptible because I enjoy exercise. Even hiking was causing me to drop or not gain. So...I had to really keep track of what I was eating. Making sure not to skip a meal at all. And I made sure I had good snacks handy. I honestly need to eat several smaller meals. I can't eat a lot at one sitting. So I plan some calorie dense healthy snacks. Like peanut butter on apple slices or cabbage leaves. Walnuts, avocado etc.
The ensure drinks are a good idea too. They work. And they are handy when you are on the go.
I also added more meat protein by filling the freezer last fall with the deer we harvested. That is a good lean protein source.

| I went through the same thing and I was diagnosed with Addison's disease. I was losing about 2-3lbs a month uncontrollably, very low blood pressure which would cause me to pass out randomly, tired all the time, craved, and still do, salt, and my anxiety was at an all time high. I now take florinef once a day and everything has returned to normal for the most part.

Location: Gainesville, TX | Peanut butter on celery or apples would be a great healthy fat addition. Definitely anything with avocados and some healthy carbs. Learn how to make posole. The hominy in it would be a great carb addition, healthy and its super yummy. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | Thank you for the advice everyone! I thought of the whole milk this morning when I was making a protein shake and checked the calorie count on the 2% milk I had. And I LOVE avocados, cheese and peanut butter! I will look into the ensure shakes.
Also I am about 5'2" maybe a little shorter.
And yeah someone told me I looked "sick" and that if I lost anymore weight I would be "disgusting" so that was really sweet of them.
I'm going to go to the store today and make sure I'm stocked up (: |

Location: not settling | I have been the same place you are! Actually I am on the road to gaining weight back right now- I dropped about 15lbs in 3 months and menstrual cycles went out of wack. I was diagnosed with Graves disease coming on 4 years- my TSH levels were completely out of turn, then I went through a rough patch and suffered an eating disorder. Please go to the doctor and get your TSH (thyroid levels) tested, they can cause serious issues if not treated.
People are quite rude or unsympathetic when you are underweight, they think that it is easy and have no problems telling you to go eat a chocolate bar or make snare or rude remarks in regards to how much you eat, you have to learn to shake these people off and do what works for you diet wise. I personally saw a dietician in the first 2 years of my Graves Disease and she taught me about what worked for my body and how to ensure I was getting enough nutrients and calories in a day, it started out really difficult and having to drink a lot of my calories whether it be in smoothies or ensures, but once my stomach adjusted to the portions and began actually eating properly it got a lot easier.
If you need to talk about it or have any questions you can PM me! |

| Well test your thyroid and rule that out first. Then think of it lime you would fattening up a horse....lots of small meals with high percentage of healthy fats. Nuts, avocado, coconut oil, etc. Eat till your full and often. I have the opposite problem and can't lose so I am no help from experience but it's worth a shot if nothing else works |

| I also agree a doctor discussion is in order.
I would give yourself a week or two of a balanced high calorie diet and if you're not gaining or still losing, get thee to a doctor. Stress can be a huge cause of weight gain or loss, but so can a number of health issues that need medical attention. |
