Location: Texas Big Country | I am sure some of you all have tried this for mares with tough cycles. What was your experience, and if it worked where is the best place to buy and how much did you feed? I also read you should not feed year round, but could not find any data on why. Thanks! |

| I use it year round. I LOVE it. I have seen the results and the longer I use it, the better the results.
Before raspberry leaves, I used injections (oxytocin) and my SO gave her ReguMate (prgesterone) for me. While these worked, it was expensive and time consuming.
The raspberry leaves work well for my mare and I do like using them year round. I have not seen any side effects after 2 years of feeding them.
That's my experience. Hope it helps.
ETA - I just buy Mare Magic at TSC or the feed store - its easy and roughly 20$ a pound. You can also buy cut and sifted leaves from amazon for about the same money. :)

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I have 2 mares and both are VERY different. One mare the rasberry leaves don't do a darn thing for so she is on silver lining herbs and that works, but the other the rasberry leaves work wonders on. I keep her on it year round and it really balances her out. Plus it's cheap. I buy a 1 lb bag (or however big it is) for around $20, it's called mare magic. |

Location: So. Cali. | I feed them to my two mares. Both are actually very sweet mares, and both get different benefits from the Leaves. One mare it helps her be less grouchy and uncomfortable when she is cycling, the other it has a calming affect on. I didnt think I had noticed much difference originally on the second mare so I didnt purchase them again, however she started being a bit more jumpy at random things that had been there all along. So they stay on them now. 
I purchase them off Amazon. Cut/Sifted Organic 1lb is usually no more than $20 from there. |

Location: Texas Big Country | Keep the experiences coming folks? Great so far, I really appreciate it. Lol on the throw $$ out the window thing, but I am thinking worth a try so far.
My 4-year-old mare has an awful time with pain. She just randomly will do a crunch/flinch thing when she's getting close to ovulating - is my guess. It is worst with spring and fall transition heats. She is a super good sport, not cranky or b#$%^&, but I can tell it just flat hurts like a muscle spasm. The first several times I thought she was colicking, but she always has great gut sounds, plenty of manure, does not thrash around or even look at her sides for that matter. She will lay down and groan, and do the flinch thing. Saddling and leg cues bother her. Again not witchy and not cinchy, but tail swishing and discomfort. And it happens with her cycles. If anybody has other ideas I am glad to hear!

Location: California | It's helped my mare a lot as well. Her heat cycles were really, really bad. She was sore, let my gelding mount her and she was peeing all over her hind legs. I had her checked out by a vet and he couldn't find anything so I started her on Mare Magic. I definitely know when she is in heat, but she is much better around my gelding and about the peeing. I only had problems one or two times this past year (in the spring), where previously it was each time she cycled. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | Some health food stores have it in bulk and cheaper than Mare majic. You may even find in bulk herbs on line. I have one that will rub the hide off herself when she is in and squeels like a pig. the raspberry leaves help her alot. |

| We used mare magic on a mare we had and our gelding. HUGE improvement in the mare, didn't see much difference in the gelding as far as calming him. I tried switching to just raspberry leaves, didn't do a thing for the mare. |

Location: CTX | So, how long are they good for?? I bought a bag of the organic raspberry leaves a year or so ago. Put it in the shed and forgot about it... Recently I came across it and couldn't find an expiration date on it.
It's an aluminum foil type bag, and has not been opened. Can I still use it or would it be better to toss it and get a new bag?? |

| Love the Mare Magic. It has made a huge difference in my mare's spookiness and temperament. She is much sweeter and more willing now. I did notice the longer I fed it the better the results were so I feed it every morning all year round.  |

I've seen it used with varying degrees of success - relying greatly on the initial temperament of the gelding. In my opinion - it is best used for helping even out a mare's moody issues while cycling. I would probably try other products on geldings.

I bought it online from a bulk herbal store, like $9.00 for a bag that lasted me three months. Much cheaper then mare magic and I think it smells fantastic! ;) |

I just bought a bag of from Animal Element was gonna try it. I've had great results from the Cissius that AE sells. My old 21 yr old arthritic mare quit limping after a week on it! Love Animal Element!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | Does anyone feed rasberry leaves with chaste berry (aka agnus castus) with it? I heard the chaste berry is even better than rasberry leaves but both works wonders.
I think Mare Magic has both but from what I have read, more of the chaste berry than rasberry leaves is better.
I am debating going to an herb store and mixing my own or getting the mare magic. |

Location: Florida | I do not have a need for Rasp Leaves with my mare but my gelding is on 2 oz. year round for imflamation. It helps him a great deal. Any adverse effects I can't think of any unless you suffer from hemaphilia.
I have many clients who use Raspberry & Donq Quai. Raspberry, for physical symptoms, ovary/uterun pain, grumpy arouns cycles.
Donq Quai for high strung, witchy mares or irregular cycles (frequent heat cycles).
Any Bulk Organic Herb Company will carry both. I like Mountainrodeherbs.com & Bulkherbusa.com |

I have tried the raspberry leaves cut sifted just bought on line from health site. 3 mares have been on it for 2 months. #1 mare not much difference. #2 Mare (the one I started the whole project for - significant difference, much less discomfort and she quit doing the spasm thing entirely. #3 mare huge surprise. I always thought she just had a crappy attitude, but is such a gritty mare i love her anyway. Tried the leaves on her and she had a complete and dramatic personality change, enough that my husband even noted it. SHe started trusting me more and is much more willing in a very short time. Also she went from 3D to 1D (at 4 races now-all 1D) in this same time frame. Not a scientific trial, however good enough for me to keep buying them!
Just for anyone out there interested. I am NOT into herbs, or any of the non-research documented "healing" stuff. I don't do all the fancy feed supplements and I don't even do Chiro. I am old fashioned to the hilt, so if I believe this is a big difference, it had to smack me in the face, lol!

Same here. I use it year round. Keeps my mare from getting sore in her back during her heat cycle. And she gets so sore she tries to buck me off if I don't use it. But I purchase it in bulk from an online herb company and pay anywhere from $6 - $9 per lb. plus shipping. I feed a approx. 1/4 cup at each feeding
