I guess it would depend on the amount of savings you have and if you have a SO who could help pay the bills at the beginning. I’ve been in sales most of my live and much prefer a base salary plus commission, so that at least the main bills are covered. Also a big network of friends and family would be helpful at the beginning of your career so you can sell to them first. I have some friends who do very well with selling financial services, and others who quit a few months into it. They couldn’t handle the pressure of dealing with people’s life savings. If the market drops your clients will come and blame you for the loss of their savings….. They probably promised you “qualified” leads… I found that while these are people to reach out to, it doesn’t mean they are seriously looking to buy. Good luck!!! |

Thanks for the information. I think I'm going to give it a shot. The man I interviewed with answered every question I had, and then brought in another young female that gave me her perspective. He also said that if 6 months into this, I decided commission-based wasn't for me, he would give me a good recommendation and get me a job at a bank, which is salary based. So I'm going to ask him to put that clause in my contract. I'm nervous. But I'm 22, in college still, and live at home right now. Plus, I have a salary job so expenses that I'm responsible for are covered. I hope this goes well. |
