Location: Ainsworth, NE | I have the opportunity to purchase a daughter of Mr. Jess Perry out of a daughter of Merridoc. I am wondering what barrel people are thinking of Mr. Jess Perry bloodlines? I know there aren't many out there but is that because Mr. Jess Perry stud fee is so high which makes most of his offspring expensive? or is it because there is an issue with them in regards to barrel training? If I buy her I would offer some embryos for sale from her to help with her cost (but cheap embryo cost so people would do it!).... Input Please!!! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I think anyone and their brother would like a daughter of Mr Jess Perry. But the ones that are cheap enough to afford probably have something wrong. I haven't come across one yet under $10k that doesn't have breeding issues. I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't found one. There is one that has been for sale for quite some time but every year she is claimed "open" for a new reason. I don't even bother to call on those |

I went to Road to the Horse last year and a Mr. Jess Perry horse won the initial trainer competition. That was a sweet horse, built awesome and moved so easy. |

Luckily, I know the lady who has her and I have been around the mare as well! She had a foal last year and this year the owner decided to not breed her to instead get a couple embryos (which were successful). So, she is definately breeding sound! and I have dealt with her (not ridden her of course, but lead her, caught her, ect) and she is very good natured! This is a freak deal where the owner is looking to buy a super expensive amazing horse and needs to come up with a little extra cash and since she knows I like that mare, she offered me a deal if she too could get another embryo next year. So, from that stand point, I am lucky! |

I would do it, Sonya....Merridocs are known for making great barrel horses and there's been some futurity winners out of Mr. Jess Perry mares....just can't remember their names off the top of my head. There's not too many of them out there because, as you said, they're expensive and most of them run on the track, where's there's more money in the market, but I think it will trickle down into the barrel world eventually. Just need one big name trainer to win on one of them and you're on the fast track. I sure like the breeding of Mr. Jess Perry. |

| I have a gelding that is out of a daughter of MR. JESS and I love him. He is wonderful to work with and never quits. Mine is 3 this year and is 15.3 so they get BIG. But I love their minds and I have hauled him and nothing bothers him at all.

She had me sold when she said they were "born broke", people lovers, willing, and eager to please. I bred my mare to him and have a weanling filly. Her personality is EXACTLY like my friend said she'd be! She is the sweetest little filly ever! I hope she turns out to be a nice barrel horse!

Location: Deep South | I would absolutely do it. I really like seeing MJP on the bottom side of colts, so having an own daughter would be ideal.
There's a guy right down the road from me with a stud by him, he raised quite a few horses out that stud. They were all so quiet and started very easily, and more speed than you would ever need for barrels. Lol! The only negative about that particular stud was that he threw very large babies, bigger than most barrel racers cared to mess with. |

We have bred her to both of our stallions and her babies look amazing every year. Her oldest one from either of our studs is 3 this year and he's really good minded. He's not in futurity hands, but I am sure that he'd have been a really nice one if the lady was into doing futurities. Our MJP mare's are the first foals to sell every year and usually are among our highest sellers every year. |

Location: Utah | I have a granddaughter (daughter of Feature Mr Jess) and I have mixed feelings. She is super smart, talented and a fun mare to ride. However she has her own special issues. She has a super soft mouth & body slow but it goes to opposite extreme the minute speed is added. She has been very slow to mature. I'm not sure if it is due to her or the injury she had. I will say she is a pleaser, always happy to go do something and meets you at the gate, and was easy to train. I see the potential in her and will continue with her, but there are days she makes me want to pull out my hair, lol! |

I started her on barrels this year and she's coming along great. She's super laid back, tons of personality, smart, doesn't spook. She is VERY marish but my hubby says she's me in horse form so we get along great lol. She loves to run. Naturally works off her hind end. I've been exhibitioning her but my goal is to start entering her January. So far we're on track. But I love the blood line. You can mix it with other lines and get great crosses. I would jump on the opportunity if I was you. |

She is 6 and has become VERY Marish this year which has made working with her a bit of an issue. She was on the track and has a SI 81 and can flat out fly but she fights me so much. She shakes her ALOT and I thought it was just me so I sent her off to be ridden by someone else for 3 months. She did the same things with her. It has gotten better and she came home the other day and due to my moms illness i have not been able to get on her. I really hope that she will finally settle in but the jury is still out. She is athletic as all get out and if she really applied herself she would be super tough.
She can get a little hot. So I am not sure if all of this from MJP or her being a mare. I also have a friend who is a pretty good futurity trainer and she always try's to steer me away from MJP. I guess it is all depending on what you get along as well as what they are crossed on and if they are a mare or gelding. My MjP mare is Beautiful and when she isnt being a crazy moody mare she is sweet. |

| There are a couple grandget around here that are 1D horses. A local breeder i previously worked for used to stand an own son of MJP and EVERY single one of his babies were the easiest to train, best minded horses i've ever worked with. They have a ton of try. They were all bred a little differently on the bottom side and that didn't seem to make any difference. |

I'd like to know too---the two that are of riding age out of our MJP daughter have been very trainable and easy to get started according to the owners. They are both sired by our stallion who puts a good mind on about everything we breed him to----but I'd have to think the mare has a lot to do with that also! |

| I have a four year old big 16h son of Jonathan Perry out of a Strawfly,Johnny Vittora and Alaboone mare that if I ever get started I will let you know. Right now he extremely gentle and laid back and first instinct is he may be too docile to make a barrel horse but I got him off the track with several wins and a 101 SI - honestly I have not done much with him but at 57 am not afraid to go ride him when he is fresh - so far I really like his mind and willing attitude |

| We have an own son that is a Graded Stakes winner, he is a proven producer of both racehorses and had his first barrel futurity horse last year that ran well in the Northern futurities. He only had 9 foals prior to us buying him because he was the first stakes winner for his previous owners and their pet. We adopted him basically LOL, they felt like we would promote him which we have tried. He bred 20 mares last year in Utah and we moved him to Texas after breeding season. He has been busy so far the breeding season and we hope for a really nice set of babies to come this year by him. We believe in him and truly think he is going to do big things as a sire. He is a cool horse and the kindest most sensible stud we have had. |

Flitastic, do you still have your DASH Ta fame X Mr. Jess Perry? And if so how is the progress? I own a 4 yr old DTF x Mr. Jess Perry is why I'm asking. thanks!
I just sold him last month. He is 6 now. He is a nice horse, but is a little slow to mature and I didn't have time he needed to get really solid on the pattern. MJP take a while to mature for sure. |

| oija - 2017-03-02 10:58 AM We have a daughter of Feature Mr Jess, granddaughter of MJP. She has a gorgeous bottom side too. Her first filly (by Firewater ta Fame) is incredibly gentle. Going to be tall too. We are expecting another foal in April out of her by Traffic Guy.
Did your mare run barrels? What is her maternal line like?
TIA |

Location: SW New Mexico | I absolutely love my Brother Dave. A grandson of MJP...Out of a mare by Runaway Winner out of a Dash for Cash mare.
His gentle disposition and heart make him a winner. He's a big boy 15.3 HH.
He's made a awesome barrel horse and has made $$.. and very handsome too..

Location: Lost in the corn of Iowa. | I've seen a lot of good comments about why people love their MJP horses, but there were a couple that don't care for them. I'm curious about why they don't like them. Is it rider/horse personality clash or something else? I have a MJP grand daughter that I am re-habbing because she was pushed too hard too soon. So I am interested in the negatives as well as the positive experiences people may have. |

| I have had 2 different ones. The first was a granddaughter of MJP out of a Streakin Six mare. I loved her. She had a great mind, was not hot at all, and was very intelligent and athletic. Unfortunately, she got navicular. I now have a Flit To Kill out of a MJP daughter. She is very much like the other one. All good stuff. One thing I can say about both of them is that they are very feelie sensitive horses. I could see how people could have trouble with them in that they could easily get scared. They are extremely light in the face and sides. It can make them difficult to ride. You can't move around a lot up there. I would take a whole barn full of them. |

| My trainer has a stallion by Onthewingsofglory out of a daughter of of Hot Colours. His momma often was the entire 1D. Trainer said he is going to be better than his momma. His disposition is fantastic and he is so smart. Good looking boy, too.

For me, and for one other person who had one bred almost identical to mine, the MJP just take a LONG LONG time to mature. YES, they are sweet, very athletic, very willing etc. They just don't " Get it" as quickly as you would expect. Like you start them on the pattern when they are 4-5 year olds and they are " Finished" horses when they are 9-10. For me, I would rather move one along a little quicker. They WILL get there, just takes a lot longer than other blood lines.. For race tracks they are great. They simply run in a straight line. Not much to think about there. |

Thank you. That explains 110% of my mare's issues. She came off the track. But she was repurposed and pushed too fast, now she is 9 and I've just let her be a horse and that seems to have helped tons. I have the time which is fine with me. I'm staying positive that she will come back decent. |

| I have a Daughter, SYNS SPECIAL MAGIC, out of JESS SPECIAL, who is a son of MR. JESS PERRY
And i have to say I LOVE HER, i purchased her when she was 6, and she had a difficult start in training for the barrel racing world (got into wrong hands), hince the reason she came up for sale.. but needless to say with hours and patience, she is coming to be a 1D. she is extremely laid back, but has so much reach when you let her work. she is the perfect babysitter for the younger foals, and loves attention. i can only imagine right now, how one would be when brought up from a baby to a racer in the right hands with correct training. shes only 8 so there will be a few years before i breed her, but most defiantly will when i find the right stud. |
