Location: Seward, Nebraska | Need some opinions on saddles for horses with short backs, and forward heart girth. I'm leaning to a round skirt circle y with 3 way rigging, or a Martin, I have a tex tan all around roper but It's rigging is to far back an does not fit my mare, so tex tan is out since from what I can tell all their rigging is 7/8. With all the saddle brands out their need some help weeding out the bad and focusing on the good ones.
Thank you |

| Have you looked at the Double J Pozzi Speedster? I know they're shorter. Or at a Double J Intimidator? |

These are the ones that I was going to suggest, their skirts are shorter |

That's why I suggested them, they have shorter skirts. And they also have the Double J rigging in them, so you can adjust it to fit almost any horse! |

Location: Oklahoma | I would beware of a Crown C. The rigging is nice, but I've been working with mine on a short backed horse (he's also shorter, not just short backed) and it seems like the saddle takes up his entire back.... And not to mention they sit further back anyway. Once he gets some weight off I definetly plan on having him fitted for something like a Pozzi pro. I'm not sure just how much shorter they are, but it looked like a world of difference when I put one on my long backed horse! |

They still make these, but now they are called The Intidmidator. Also just saw on their website that they are making a Flex Tree now. They look short as well. |

I have and after 14 years of switching saddles on this horse, I'm done --- I've kept him running in the JBN longer than any other saddle - tried over 50.
I even thought about an Arabian saddle at one time, but with his high wither decided it wouldn't work anyway.
I've put many bare trees on his back and none of them fit correctly - and they all extended too far back. There are two widths of JBN so if one doesn't work, you might try the other size. I had to "alter" the front to not interfere with his high wither, though.

Location: NC | My Tod Slone has a short skirt. it fit in a 24" long box to ship. it also is the B3 tree and they fit wide straighter backed horses like yours looks like. you can see how much pad is infront of and behind. This is my only one I have had so not sure if they all have shorted skirts or just this one....

Location: Seward, Nebraska | I've thaught about the record breaker but they don't have it on their website any more, I took wither tracings to a tack store an the cactus nbha fit for gullet but skirt was to long. We have a expo next weekend so I plan on trying every saddle their to see if I can find one that works for us both, I've been reading specs on every saddle to compare but it's so hard to tell if they will work online an the more I obsess over saddle fit the more confused an discouraged I'm getting! Why is saddle shopping such a pain? |

I get all my saddles from Teskey's. They can ship you a record breaker to try for ten days and you can send it back if you don't like it. THey can literally get you any saddle for a little less off retail. Jeff there has always been good to me about those things. Really nice people with really great connections. |

Location: on my horse | I have an extremely short backed big wide shouldered decently withered horse that needs a saddle with a lot of rock to the bars and the best fitting thing I've found is an older Martha Josey round skirt barrel saddle. That little thing fits him like a glove, his muscles are built up where they should be and i don't even have to use a corrector type pad anymore. I will add that I bought it used and paid like 400 bucks for it so check out used older saddles! If you want I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it, it's so ugly from wear and tear and use but it works like a charm and is safe. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | We have a short backed obese little mare that we've had a hard time with saddle fitting. I have Cactus CJ's both the barrel racer and the Record breaker and I've also tried the Double J CJ Intimidator and Record Breaker. They were all too long in the tree. If you measure from the front concho to the farthest back concho that's a pretty good guesstimate of how long the tree is. I got a hold of a Connie Combs saddle and it was at least 2 inches shorter than my CJ's. You can always find her on FB or call her company. They'll be happy to help you. |
