Has anyone's vet been able to give them a date when it can be prescribed and administered?

The vet that told me about it initially had heard about it at a conference earlier this year.  It got FDA approval a few months ago but no one here has it yet........

My reiner has holes in his navicular bones and he was treated with Tildren, I saw some results but not as dramatic as I'd like.......Osphos is in the same drug class but administered IM rather than IV......I'm hoping it might make a bigger difference.

I externed at a practice in Texas that has been using it and seeing good results.. So it's definitely out there and able to be used.

That is encouraging!  Was your clinic part of the trial phase or is it actually able to prescribe and administer it now?

My vet just had me look in to it.  He is going to use it on one of mine.  He has used it on four horses so far with good results.

I have used Tildren on my gelding who showed holes in his nav bone and had awesome results, we did it Regional Limb Perfusion not IV. RLP concentrates the solution more directly to the troubled area whereas IV spreads disperses it all over the body. I usually do a maintenance treatment on my guy once a year. This time around we are going to try the Osphos just out of curiosity, plus I understand it is a little cheaper than the Tildren. I just dicussed this with my vet and she did not indicate there would be an issue obtaining it. It has been FDA appoved.

We did regional profusion on my gelding as well but it was still given in the vein (IV) and not the muscle.

The vets here or within a few hours drive don't have it in their hands yet, I've been calling around and no one seems to be in a hurry or worried about getting it.........I didn't know if that was because they are slow to try it or if it just couldn't be used yet even though it had FDA approval.

Aww I understand, yes RLP would still be injected into the vein below the tourniquet. I mistakenly assumed by IV you meant the traditional IV method where it is was dispersed thoughout the body and nope per my vet she can get it and use it any time. I am very fortunate and live in or near some very good, on the cutting edge vets! I am curiouos to see if the results are the same that I had with Tildren. I sure hope so because I think I much prefer the IM. Good luck to you, stay after the vets, hopefully they will come through for you. Maybe encourage them to contact a vet that may be more knowlegeable about it. That is how I got my general vet started.

Here's an interesting article on Tildren/Osphos. Also states Tildren is on back order, not sure if that is still true. I do like the current stats for Osphos.

I read that Osphos was cheaper than Tildren, does anyone know what it runs?

My vet said 350.00 for the treatment which is 4 IM shots given at same time. RLP for my horse was the same cost.

Bumping up this thread with a question:
For those who have tried Osphos, has anyone had a bad reaction? Kidney issues?

Thank you

Mine didn't have a reaction but someone just posted this week that her horse coliced immediately with it but it was the horse pre race version , not name brand.
