Double the congratulations!!!   I don't have twins but do have  4 a year apart- busy, busy.   My best advice is to hire some help to come to your house for a couple of hours while you ride, take a coffee break etc.  Make a little time for yourself everyday.  When mine were napping, instead of cleaning the mess or  doing laundry, etc. I napped too, read a book, took the time to relax.  I don't remember that time period as difficult or stressful and I think that is because I put a little "me time" into every day that I could.

Congratulations!!!! How exciting! I am sure you can find someone to come and help out so you can have a few hours to yourself. I wish I lived closer I would love to be a stand in Grandma since my family is so far away.

I have grown twin girls and a son...........my advice is don't stress over getting things done!  Do what you can do and pace yourself.........I use to tell people "if you want to see the babies, come on....if you want to see the house ...make an appointment"  things are what they are!  My son helped me so much even though he was only 3 1/2 at the time!  He'd go get bottles, diapers and helped with so much!  Try to feed them one after the other and then you have a few hours to catch up or rest!  Just don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy them is the most important!!  They actually entertain themselves with each other alot!

I haven't had twins, but I am one. My mother loves to tell the stories. Evidently we were total handfuls. She just paced herself. We turned out fine. I know as we got older we played with each other and kept ourselves entertained pretty well. This was a benefit. The downside was we also got into a lot of mischief too. lol.

I just bought my daughter a really nice horse to and don't want to see her sit. I am due May 30 or earlier .

First off...twin pregnancy ain't for sissies.  I don't want to scare you at all, but you should be aware of the complications that can come at any time.  I read everything that I could get my hands on so that I knew more about what to expect.

My pregnancy was breezing along other than the EXTREME fatigue that comes with growing two humans in your belly...until I was 19 weeks.  I had a horrendous bleeding episode that landed me in the hospital for four days and bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy.  They thought it was a placenta previa (it turned out to be some rare chorangioma tumor...whole other story).  Not exactly how I had things planned.  I thought I would work up to 36 weeks or so and have my babies and take them home.....Wrong.

My husband is Superman.  While I was on bedrest he cooked for me three times a day to make sure that I was getting proper nutrition for the babies with my extremely limited mobility, he took care of all of our horses, coached t-ball, and even managed to get the girls to some local barrel races...and he videod so that I could see too, all on top of his extremely demanding job as a ranch real estate agent.

I had no further complications until I was 31 weeks.  Late one night I had another, much worse, bleeding episode that required blood transfusions and required me to spend the rest of my pregnancy in the hospital.  We had to endure the anxiety of the babies being born too early and without the steroids needed to mature their lungs, but were able to get my labor stopped that night.  While in the hospital the babies were monitored twice a day, ultrasounded every other day and never had any issues themselves.  My condition was not improving and they were concerned about me having another bleed if we tried to wait to deliver them any longer and they were scheduled to be born via c-section at 34 weeks.

It's an incredibly surreal experience.  Sitting on the edge of a VERY narrow operating table looking at all of the medieval torture devices that they were going to use to extract my babies from my belly.  The anesthesiologist gave me my spinal and soon I was completely numb from my ribs down...there were nurses everywhere and two Dr's all standing behind the drape ready to grab my babies and go to work.  Greg was sitting next to me babbling about my mare that is in roping training and trying to distract himself, lol.  My Dr was talking to me and complimenting me on my abdominal muscles :-)....and then she pulled Sterling out wrapped him up and handed him around to put in front of my face, I fell in LOVE.  He looks just like his father, but was having some breathing difficulty so they took him away quickly.  My Dr was pulling and digging around trying to get ahold of the next baby and laughed that she was in a "yoga pose"...she said this kid has one leg over here and I had to grab the other one up next to her head!  ....and then Estella was born, not crying....the MOST terrifying moments of my life.  They roughed her up and she finally whimpered...and I started breathing again.  They brought her around so that I could see her tiny face and again, I was in LOVE.  Finally, I have one that I can say looks like me :-)  She too was taken away quickly and I was forced to lay there numb and wait on them to put me back together.

In the recovery area I was completely dazed and even when they wheeled my bed down to the NICU to see the babies I probably couldn't have identified them as my own, lol.  I was taken up to my room to rest and give the family the news on our two new blessings....and begin the torturous process of pumping breast milk for twins (yet again, a whole other story).

NICU nurses are special angels sent from GOD....they are your saviors and the blessed keepers of your babies until they are released to go home with you.  Sterling was given surfactant to help with his lungs and was on a very small % of oxygen for a day or so.  Estella required no oxygen or intervention....but, she was prone to "Brady Episodes"  that's where the baby's heartrate will decelerate and they stop breathing.  She would resolve on her own without intervention from me or the nurses, but the hospital requires them to go 5 days without an episode before they can go home....

We spent 29 days in the NICU.  I was totally fine and so appreciative of the Dr's and nurses taking care of them for about the first two weeks.  Then I had had enough, lol.  I was healing well and driving myself to go sit with them and I was beyond ready to take them home.

They are now almost 6 months old and SO much fun!

I have a 13 year old daughter and a 5 year old daughter and we have always just packed them up and gone on with our lives.  We are a team, the four of us, and everyone has responsibilities.  I do not expect my older girls to take care of the twins....unless it's for a short period of time to give me a break to get supper done or something like that.  I pay my oldest daughter if she WANTS to watch them (she like having her own money to buy things).  I even made a deal with her over the summer to help me with the babies when I started back working from home.  For helping me as needed during the day while Greg was gone and she was out of school I bought her a Back On Track sheet that she had been wanting for her mares.

My husband and I have a great working relationship and take turns with everything, without keeping score (which is absolutely necessary).  Twins are a lot of work and the first few weeks when they came home felt like we would never sleep a full night ever again, even though our babies have always been super good babies.  He works his horses and I wheel the babies around or cook supper or whatever needs done, and then when I need to ride he takes the babies and drives them around in the RTV or goes fishing.  Most of the time we try to plan around their naps.

I know this is a book, lol.  If you have ANY questions about anything give me a shout.  I'm on FB too.  If I haven't experienced it directly there's a good chance that I've read about it....I had five months of bedrest and lots of research time!

Feed yourself GOOD food regularly.  Growing twins burns calories, but not junkfood.  I was only pregnant 34 weeks, but I gained 40lbs total.  Early on I couldn't make it through the day without a nap.  I let my boss know pretty early on that I was expecting twins because I was aware of possible complications.  Go for walks and accept that this is happening and you will get excited about meeting them.  I never knew what I was physically and mentally capable of until I was blessed with these tiny humans

I did, lol.  Luckily my story is not common... My babies were never technically "sick".  They just needed some time to mature and grow.  They are doing great now.  I forgot to mention their weights.  Sterling was 5#1oz/20" long and Estella was 4#5oz/17-1/4" long.  They were good sized babies for twins and especially 6 weeks early.  Sterling is very tall for his age and makes Estella look tiny, when she's actually an average size preemie 5-1/2 month old.

This past year has been a whirlwind, but I try to remind myself to slow down and savor them being little.  I look at their little preemie clothes and can't believe they were ever that tiny.

No advice, but relax and don't get to stressed out..my husband's cousin married his best friend and their first babies were a set of twins, then thought they would try for one more..they got another set of twins. What gets done throughout the day gets done and don't stress out!
