I don't know much other than they are parasites that live under the skin usually around the ligaments of the neck. I have a mare with a spot on her neck and I've just realized it may very well be neck threadworms so I am going to look up treatment. If anybody has any advice I'd love to hear it too!

We bought our mustang pony in the midst of threadworms. Midges, No-see-ums, parasites. Whatever they are. He had no hair on his shoulders, or his hind quarters. His tail was completely rubbed out a foot long stretch. He rubbed out more than half his mane. No hair on the majority of his face or his ears. He rubbed and itched and scratched on anything he could find; the barn, then fence, barbed wire, chain link, the house, the trailer. He rubbed until he was bloody. I think the change of environment is what helped him. He's now growing all his hair back and is a happy boy.

I wonder if my two year old has this. I assumed it was girth itch and have been treating with fungaway. I wormed her this weekend, but that article recommends worming a couple more times in quick succession. I'll talk to my vet and maybe try that. Maybe it will fix it. She certainly has the spot with flies on it on the underside of her belly that is making me suspect these.
