I have seen more and more saddle that are all rougeout and now looks like I will be picking one up Monday J. I was wondering how you guys clean and condition them?? I have had saddles with rougeout jockeys and fenders but never an all rougeout saddle. On my past saddles I scrubbed the rougeout with soap and water and put the oil underneath.

SG. - 2014-10-24 6:38 AM I did it like the rest of the saddle. clean and oil. let dry out of sun then take wire brush to rough it back up. some use sand paper
So you clean your rough out with soap and then oil it? Does it keep it clean looking? Does the oil help darken the rough out? Are you oiling the rough out on the rough side or the under side?

Using a wire bush works well. It the saddle is really dirty and you are brave take it to the car wash. Spray with the dial on rinse you can also spray a little Murphys oil soap and then rinse it again. Be sure to let it dry out of the sun. Oil the underside.

If you know of someone that has an air compresser {air hose} these work really well on blowing all the dust off a saddle befor you start to clean them, we have one in our shop and it works wonders.

One of the many reasons I own them is because they are the easiest to clean/maintain. I blow mine off with air compressor, oil and done. You can't hurt them. No more trying to get all the dirt and soap out of the tooling.

yes. leather therapy cleaner works great. it will darken because of oil. Please remember light colored leather has light oil and is not as durable in the long term

I don't mind oil darkening the leather just don't want it to be splotchy, so wasn't sure if the rougeout would absorb it pretty evenly like smooth?
