| After endless saddle agony I'm biting the bullet and having my 2 gelding fitted. This whole saddle popping up in the back is costing me time and making my guys sore....and i really dony feel like playing Superwoman and be launched over their head or pulling up (again) to slow the momentum so i wont. I'm leaning towards Martin Saddlery right now but want opinions and advice based on yalls experience too. One is leaner built high withers broad back....and 1 is just.....a toad. Lol. THANKS!!!! |

| I wouldn't want my horse custom fitted by a saddle company, I would want my horse fitted by a tree company, or a tree manufacturer.
There is a guy in Alberta that makes trees custom to the horse and I believe the cost of the tree alone is 800-1200 then I would have to have the saddle built. I haven't justified spending 4k on a fairly plain saddle to only fit on horse.
Atleast with the crown c saddles I can make them work for more then one horse and the saddle costs 2500 for plain, and 3500 for extravagant. |

Location: Kansas | I took my gray in and had him fitted at R Bar B in Topeka KS when he won a trophy saddle & our NBHA district was going to order through Russ. He put trees on Chance and made some notes of things to tweak when Chance's saddle was made. That saddle fits him perfectly and I would not hesitate to get another horse fitted by Russ & order a custom saddle from him again. |

Location: lone star state | Monty Reedy mineral wells texas. Quality is so far above and beyond assembly line made saddles. Martins cactus pozzi are all made on an assembly line and when u put a Reedy beside them they look like plastic cheap junk.....when u place a Reedy on a horse it literally fits like a glove and the seat will fit the rider like a glove as well. |

| I have a Martin Racer that I really like. I rode in a Crown C, but just like the way the Racer felt for me. |

| Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaning towards the Martin racer. How much do Coats run and where is the factory located? |

I own a few Martins and Double J's and they are not junk, were do you get your information from that these saddles that you are naming are junk? |

| Now I'm leaning towards a Coats. Not sure how I feel about the Crown C ' s and the thought process behind them after talking to Brian. My problem saddle now is a Double J :( |

Location: Peach State | We had a Courts roping saddle made for our appendix bred horse (obviously most roping saddles arnt crafted to fit a "racey bred" horse). They measured him and made a tree just for his build, the rest was just whatever details you prefer. The quality is great, it's a beautiful and functional saddle. |

Location: Texas | Double J will custom fit the tree to your horse. You can talk to them and they will explain exactly how they are made. Not on an assembly line. I'm sure Jackie Ganter, Latricia Duke, Brittany Pozzi, Karsyn Daniels, etc. weren't picky at all about the saddle they ride in. If anyone watched the WPRA finals their horses looked soooo sore from those crappy saddles, that's probably why none of them have ever won a big title before.
eta: Same with Sherry Cervi, I'm sure she just went out and said who cares if Stingray's back gets sore, Martin Saddlery wants to sponsor me then sure.

Because they have about 50 employees. They also make all of their own trees. |

| To the person bashing Double J for being assembly line has clearly never ridden in one, or even seen one for that matter. Both of mine are great, well balanced, quality products. Trust me, I'm very picky about what I ride my horses in. When I didn't have any saddles that fit my gelding, I laid him off until I got something that fit him. Going out and racing to me isn't near as important as a healthy, happy horse. Now when someone rides my horse, I don't let them throw their own saddle on, unless it is a Pozzi tree.
Also, I like how Martin started producing their trees in house so they could monitor the quality of them. I recently watched a video of Clinton Anderson going to Martin and it showed it all from the tree making, cutting the pieces of leather, tooling, oiling, and everything. |

| To the original poster on of this thread, if I could have any custom fit to my horse and made to my exact wants, I would go with Larry Coats or Stoney. Hands down, those are my two personal favorites. But definitely get your horse fit before spending that kind of money. I know a lady who bought a $6,500 Stoney down at the NFR last year just because she thought it was pretty. Don't get me wrong, it is very pretty, but the seat is way to small for her and the tree doesn't fit her horse AT ALL. Definitely get your horse fitted before buying! |
