10 days ago while we were on vacation, I started having symptoms of a UTI infection so I went to urgent care, they said I may or may not have an infection and prescribed me to take 5 days Ciproflaxacin, after the 5 days, I didn't feel any better and developed a rash on my stomache/back sides so thought maybe I was allergic. Called my regular doctor and told her and she prescribed a different antibiotic and I've been on it 4 days now with no help either.....she said normally the meds start working in 6-10 hrs!!! I went back to the doctor yesterday and she is stumped, they did an exam and another sample which showed nothing so they are sending it in for culture but that will take 4-5 days. I am in so much pain but she said there is not much else they can do.....I don't have all the symptoms of UTI like frequency and urgency, it just burns!!!!!!!
Anyone know anything about this or have any advice? The pain is getting to be unbearable! I don't drink pop or use artificial sweeteners, not on any other meds and am usually always healthy and active....

I had something similar a couple of weeks ago. Put me on one antibiotic and didn't do a thing; then said it was a yeast infection and treated for that; didn't do a thing. Finally put me on Levaquin and I felt better in about 6 hours, but it took the whole 7 days to feel back to normal again!

This may even be an STI. I would wait for the culture to come by. Have you tried generic Walgreens/CVS brand cream or meds?

Why on earth did they not give you any pyridium? Macrobid and pyridium?? Poor thing. See if they will order you some.

I think macrobid is what I'm on now? I could be wrong though, I'd have to check when I get home. That's what I took last time and it helped in one day. :(

Yup. Your symptoms and no help from standard tx for UTI has STI written all over it.

I had something similar but ended up just being a razor cut that gave a false positive on the test. Hurt until it healed up.

If it is a reccurent issue that has come up make sure you aren't using a scented body soap. I switched to Summers Eve feminine wash after FREQUENT  UTI's a few years ago and the ER nurse suggested my soap being an issue. I have not had a single one since. Not sure it will help the immediate issue but may prevent a reoccurance? Good luck! They are horrible.

ETA- I am also a holistic nerd and take D-Mannose every day.

Go to your health food store and get some D Mannose. Works really well for UTI's.

I will have to check into this! thank you for suggesting that, I too like the holistic approach and frequent health food stores so this will be perfect. it's a LITTLE better but not much, they switched me to doxycycline.....

Great advice given here! I had the same issue years ago. Come to find out, I'm very sensitive to sodas, tea and coffee. Weird I know!! LOL. I can only drink those I'm small amounts. Not sure of your diet, but lots of water is important. Good luck and feel better!!

You can also keep UTI's and cystitis (bladder inflammation without actual infection) at bay by drinking cranberry juice.  They make capsules but the 100% juice is better I feel.  It alters the pH of your urine and helps to prevent the issues and help clear one up.

Ok, I am not one to normally tell you to take something, but over the years, I have had them off and on... SMZ's that you give horses can be very effective treating UTI's!  and 5 days?  that doctor is on crank!  nothing will clear up a UTI in 5 days, you need at LEAST 10 days but 2 full weeks is best and take them for the full 2 weeks, even after you feel better.
1 pill twice daily... with LOTS OF WATER!   if you take 2 right off the bat, it will help greatly with the pain....
Have you changed soaps, detergents or anything lately?

Please do not self administer antibiotics as the bacteria may not be sensitive to it, or if you are not on the antibiotic long enough you will be contributing to antibiotic resistant organisms.

One doctor told me to be careful about taking a bath vs a shower and to put a little bleach in the water if I took bath instead of shower. It might have gone up to your kidney that is why its taking longer to get rid of. Once the culture comes back they will really know what to treat it with. The D Mannose is awesome stuff.

If you are looking for some relief you can try drinking alkaseltzer (sp). Make it really strong and it should give relief. You can also eat a pinch of garlic every so often. It helped my pain when nothing else did. Good Luck!

We have struggle with UTI in my daughter.

You need a urinals and a culture and sensitivity done to get the right medicine, also we have hade the urinals come back negative and the culture acatualy grow! Its important to see what's growing and what can kill it. We are not prescribe meds until thoes tests vome back, but she is resistant to most meds.

If your interested in some therpiduic essintal oils thoes made a huge difference on her. I can explain that on a pm.

Good luck hope you feel better soon!

Im simply saying what worked for me and I know it works as it was prescribed by a dr once... it just saves me a trip in and taking off work... I self admin what has worked for me. I have taken several over the years that didnt work that i ended up allergic to ( those were prescribed for me btw) UT I suck! And i sure hope u have gotten relief by now! Cranberry juice, pills, yogurt none of that ever worked for me. But it could b ur laundry soap, bath soap causing this as i found it was for me... hopefully u got answers and relief. And the biggest thing is to take ur antibiotics till they r gone

I feel for you. My mom had it frequently, she stopped baths and quit drinking any soda and switched to unsented laundry deter. and fabric softner.
