What do you use to mark your barrel placement.? I have been using a horseshoe with rope tied to it placed deep in ground. However, I would like to use something like I have seen where there is a small section of rubber hose above the ground marking placement. Thanks.!

Do you mean at home?? if so, i dont use anything, my reasoning behind this you may ask is when i am training my young ones i dont really want my pattern to be the same, i may want the pattern long and narrow, wide and long etc. i change it up a lot,..I dont want my young ones getting used to going 6 strides and turning, 6 strides and turning etc. most all arenas are different..only pole patterns stay the same. Once my horses learn the pattern then the ONLY time they will see a pattern is when i have a problem or they go to a show. The rest of the time they are ridden on trails and ridden away from the arena.

i attach the rubber hose to a bolt and clamp it down tight to hold. i have a plastic planter seed plate the bolt goes up thru and then the dirt holds the plate in the ground. i use the recycled ones from my work and only buy the hose. when the hose deteriates due to wear and tear i dig it up and unclamp and add more hose.

Not for home use, for the barrel races I produce. We are replacing the markers at an outside pen we are holding a benefit at this coming weekend.
Thanks Lulu... this was exactly what I had in mind. Headed to the hardware store now. Don't have any seed plates, but I'm sure I can find something I can put a bolt through. -- :)
