I am looking at a few horses but they are out of state. If I go test drive a few of them and decided on one. I would have to go back and pick up that horse the following weekend. Would you want to be there for the exam (i.e when you pick up the horse) or would you get the exam done before the weekend and let your own vet look at the x-rays? Also how long does a performance/sedative drug stay in a horse's system? Would you want blood pulled that day or done with the PPE?
Several years ago I looked at some horses out of state. The seller's were kind enough to haul the horse to a highly recommended vet that they did not use. He called me and told me what he found. I ended up not buying the horse but he was going to send me the cd of xrays if I did so my vet could check them out. The horse I did buy, I had the vet pull some extra blood for drug testing. He said he would not test it unless I called to ask him to. I did this because I didn't want to pay for the test if I didn't need it since we did a lot of xrays that I wanted for a base line for the future. Fortunately, I didn't need to test. I also googled and asked around about the seller before I looked at my horse. I got nothing but good reviews, so I really didn't think I would need the drug test.
