been having some issues with my 8 yr old patterned horse hes not a finished horse by any means. a friend suggested trying a tie down on him last night and so i did... WOW it was like something clicked and he finally RAN by far the best run hes ever made... why would the tie down make that big of a difference??

It may have prevented him from getting his face away from you and he had to listen to you, or it could be he just needed the balance.  Some horses need them to lean on to feel balanced and secure in their manuvers.

Sometimes for balance ... I've seen it before and as they learn to hold themselves correctly you can loosen the tie down.

Some horses will use it for balance in their turns. The ones that do I try to put them in a flat leather one instead of a rope one.
