Why is that stoopid?? By far it's been the biggest qualfier to date, why not put number 11 where it's been the best received? Glen Rose is an awesome facility. I don't get it? |

I think some people just like to stir the pot.
I'm pretty excited about it. I know a lot of contenders hit barrels and even though that's a part of running, I think they deserve a second shot. It's just gonna help our sport and add two more nail biting drags to the semis. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I agree with Grinandbearit that they should have taken to the top 20 with so many entries. You need to have the qualifiers where the barrel racers are. Doesn't seem stupid to me at all. Sounds like a sound business decision. Doesn't part of the entry fees go back to the added money for the American? |

So youre OK with a new high power organization changing the rules as they go? Why have rules and schedules?
I dont see how anyone can see this as a positive..."If you dont like the score, change the goalposts". |

Just wondering how exactly this affect you? Are you entered? Are you already qualified? Are you planning to run next year? If not, then why do you care? The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Do you even actually run barrels? |

Oh my gosh she did have a great weekend. I see G&BI at a lot of the races and I was there for last night's run and I saw the palomino run today. I bow to you my friend. You make it look effortless. I usually catch some of your runs around here and they always have me very impressed. A low 15 to high 14 is sooo impressive at Glen Rose so the great runs just kept coming and coming. Holy smokes! |

It is not an organization it is a private production owned by RFDTV. Their game their rules and they can change them any time they want to. If you look back at the mission statement from last year they said they planed on adding several more to the schedule. |

Location: Texas | I was there and they ran the race great. Glen rose can be a tough pen to run in if your horse is not used to that alley. I did not run any of the other races there so don't know how the ground was and I know that ground can be tricky to work so I think they did a good job over all but I have to say I saw ALOT of pretty good slips and a few falls. Personally I would rather see the next qualifier in Waco as I think the ground is overall better there. |

 Go For It!
Location: Texas | Thank you everyone! It was an amazing weekend and I so wish that I could take all the credit, but truth is, I'm just along for the ride and can't wait to see where the train is headed!
It sounds a little cliche but I have to give credit where credit is due… without God's mercy and grace and favor, I could not get it done. Believe me, I tried for a long time to do things in my own power. It just never worked out for me. You may not see my horse's names on the top of the lists all the time, but for me, they are and have been a real blessing. It's not always about winning, sometimes it's just about the ride. It is a personal journey of baby steps, taken one at a time, and God has been there to hold my hand through it all. He has even drug me along (kicking and screaming) a few times. It's nice to sit back and know that you don't have to be the one in control all the time. You just have to trust that He has a plan, because He does, and it is probably WAY better than yours. :-)
Thanks again for all the kind words! You guys ROCK!

| I watched the American qualifier in person and saw quite a few horses slip and struggle with the ground. It was packing down firm with loose dirt on top and just not holding up the best but everybody ran on the same ground so nobody got "cheated". It appeared the same from start to finish. The main comment I have though is this: THEY ANNOUNCED THE ADDITIONAL QUALIFIER RACE EARLIER THAT DAY, before the qualifier at Glen Rose this weekend so it is NOT about who did not qualify this weekend. One thing I wish they would change is run on normal metal barrels like we run on everywhere else. Those barrels were plastic and fell way too easily.......reason for soooo many barrels down. |

Location: Mansfield, TX | Thank You for pointing that out Quickdraw!! The additional Qualifier was announced BEFORE the Qualifier was even run!!! R.F.D. TV has told us at the BBR that if we could get at least a 1050 people to enter the Qualifiers we would be allowed to take 10 people back to AT&T stadium to run for the 1 millon Bonus instead of just five so we were able to add another Qualifier to give more people a shot at a life changing opptunity. It had NOTHING to due with trying to get "someone(s)" qualified or politics!!! That comment just showed a lack of knowledge about what is really going on. If R F D TV just wanted a specific person running at AT&T stadium they would just give that person an exemption . It is beyond me why someone would try to stir up something to hurt an opportunity for all barrel racers a chance at a Millon Dollar Paycheck!!! Get your facts straight before you start spreading lies and gossip and ruining it for everyone else......Please dont be that "one person in every crowd." P.S. Please bare I mind, that Barrel Racing isn't the only event which has been allowed to add another qualifier. That alone kinda shoots your theory out of the water too!Destry Fleming - BBR Co-Foundrr |

I was there and before Sunday mornings race I went in the arena to look at the barrels. They are heavy. I hit one hard during my run on Sunday, bruised my knee through my shin guard, the barrel rocked but stayed up. I think they are pretty comparable to metal. There were a bunch of slips, I felt bad for horses. I guess when you have one huge power horse right after the other the ground is going to get dug up. I noticed for the American they actually ripped the ground at every 50 as opposed to just grooming it like they did during the 5D. I heard a lot of comments about the hit barrels and most attributed it to not being set up right in approach while going absolutely all out and no time to correct or adjust. |

I have been hurt more by plastic and cut too by them. They are heavy and they do hurt. For me, I just like the look of metal. Petty, but just me. |

Yep, the plastic can hurt you too. I do wonder how much of a difference it makes that the plastic do not have the rim around the bottom that can dig in the ground a little like the metal cans do. |

Some, but not much. I actually turn the rim to the bottom at home so if I do hit, it won't hurt as bad............................... |

That alone kinda shoots your theory out of the water too!Destry Fleming - BBR Co-Foundrr
Thank you Destry!!!! |

| We definitely need more than one qualifier in Texas. Every other rodeo event had more than one qualifier in Texas, except for barrels and where does the biggest number of barrel racers live? Texas. They should always have at least 2. |

Location: NE Texas | grinandbareit - 2014-11-02 8:50 PM Thank you everyone! :-) Thanks again for all the kind words! You guys ROCK!
What a class act you are...and what a great post! You lead by example and let your actions speak for you. Big thumbs up to you and I so hope you enter again and I can pull for you at the next one.
Totally agree with that many runners they should have taken the top 20. That was the best group of horses i've seen gathered in one place in my life. So fun to watch! Congrats to you for being so close and I look forward to watching you again! |

Be constructive or find another place to play. - Forum Admin - Sure wish we still had the like button This is evolving and the biggest best thing to happen to barrel racing in years...If you don't like the way we play in Texas, then keep your well mannered pleasant personality up north. Perfect as I dont speak spanish.... Hell, you don't type English, much less speak Spanish!
I don't always sit at the computer drinking a coke in the morning, but when I do, I probably should not be on BHW. That made me snort some up my nose.
Thank you to the producer for coming on. You guys have always been a class act. Hope to join you at a race again soon.

Changing schedules and rules on the fly is bush league, BUSH LEAGUE!
It almost makes you wonder who the powers to be wanted to qualify that didn't.
I apologize for my earlier comment. I wasn't aware they announced another qualifier before the race even started, nor should I have said what I did to begin with. |

| To Destry: you are "da bomb" and I am glad you explained WHY you added another qualifier. I had read over their rules a few months ago contemplating entering a qualifier and when I read that they may only take 5 from the semi's to the finals, that was truly disheartening considering the entry fees to get to that point and the competition you have to outrun to get to that point.
Are they dead set on having the semi's at Northside? The lack of warm up area, lack of parking for that many rigs, and lack of seating in that little coliseum........makes me a little surprised they chose that location. No matter where they have it, it will be awesome to go see. |

I obviously don't have that "northern" personality y'all are referring to!
I love the qualifier races, the more the merrier! No matter the location! I will eventually get to one... Maybe not til I'm 80 and half senile but it's a goal I have. |

| Yep, the plastic can hurt you too. I do wonder how much of a difference it makes that the plastic do not have the rim around the bottom that can dig in the ground a little like the metal cans do.
Just FYI - the composite barrels that we use do have a rim at the bottom just like the metal ones, but they do not at the top. |

Yes - as we speak the semi finals are set in stone at Northside and we actually have walk through & technical meeting schedule there in the next few days to go over all the details. Some of the same concerns that you have mentioned quickdraw are also some of our concerns and those concerns will be brought up and addressed at the meeting. |

Thanks for the info! I saw the plastic barrels hang in the air on those slow motion falls just like the metal barrels will do. I really don't think they go down any easier than metal. I bruised my knee pretty good and it stayed up. I had a lot of fun last week end, great announcing, well run, first time to run there, loved the pen, loved watching the American and I am going back for the next qualifier. Only negative for me was my horses HATED the solid walled stalls and had one who would not drink good, hoping to get stalls with the bars next time so they can see each other, they are usually great when traveling. |

| Rodeomom - next time, just note on your entry form about the stall, and we can handle it.
On the barrels - I know there have been alot of questions and concerns so here is what I know. The composite barrels were designed primarily to help reduce injuries to horses should they get caught up in a barrel during a run. They are the same weight, size, etc as a standard metal barrel. The only thing different is the composite ones do not have a lip at the top, and have two small hand grabs in the top for the barrel setters. A third party laboratory has even certified that these barrels have the same weight,, strike force, and standards as a typical metal barrel & in a controlled test that was performed where both metal and composite barrels were used, there were only three times where either the metal barrel fell and the composite one didn't or the composite one fell and the metal one didn't. All the other times, they both fell, or both stayed up.
Both WinMore and BBR took all of this into consideration prior to making the switch, with the major emphises being on the reduced injuries to a horse and/or rider. |
