How many people prefer to make a home maid gift over buying a store bought gift?

And another question is how many people prefer to get a home maid gift rather than getting a store bought gift?

I love homemade gifts! Probably because I am creatively challenged. My sister made afghans(?), SIL makes baked goods and my FIL does beautiful woodworks every Christmas. This year I am going to try to make some homemade gifts too.

I love (and am also very artistically inclined so make a lot of) home made gifts. I am actually very practical and HATE the idea that I am supposed to go buy for others or have "useless" presents bought for me because a holiday dictates it. I love to make home made gifts and put lots of thought into them for each individual person.

I love homemade gifts! Even if they aren't made by me I like buying things that other crafters have made to give as gifts. Something that you won't find in a store. I try to make homemade things for my kids teachers. I've done jelly and spa stuff

Would not matter but I think something that is hand made makes it a little extra special. Just my opinion.

Ok, call me materialistic or what have you, but I'd much rather recieve something store bought under most circumstances. Most people aren't as good at making things as they think they are, or they make things that I will NEVER use and then collect dust, get re-gifted, or donated. For example I have recieved home made doilies from family members. I am in my 20's. I have no use for a doily and I never will. I'd much rather the put some thought into buying me something than making something completely useless to me.

I would be glad to give ideas! As long as it doesn't include anything with paper, ink, or paint! LOL. I can barely draw stick people, LOL. But crocheting and knitting projects are a favorite of mine, especially things people can use like hats, scarves, mittens, etc. I once made my mom a dress for her birthday. It doesn't look like store bought, but it turned out good! Plus it was a pattern and color my mom picked, so while she knew about it, I put it together. :) We also make lots of canned goods, jams, jellies, fruits, veggies, pickles, and the people we give those things to seem to love them.

I am making rag quilts for Christmas this year. Probably won't have time to make everyone one since I only started making them in October but who ever gets left out will get one next Christmas. If you can sew in a semi-straight line... you can make a rag quilt lol. So easy and fast. In one month I made 2 large baby quilts, and a throw quilt. Already have the squares cut for the 4th, just need to find time when my son isn't home so I can make it without him seeing it.

It really doesn't matter to me if it is a home made gift or store bought. Not many crafty people in my family so I usually get store bought.

Rag quilts-I just made a rag quilt and I love it! Pretty easy, if I can do it anyone can. Plan on making another one in the near future!

I have given and recieved both in the past. Varies from year to year. One year I gave my oldest daughter a blinged out tack set that I made. I bought the headstall and breastcollar and just added the conchos and rhinestones. Here lately, I've been giving homemade christmas ornaments. Just because I feel bad for not giving anything but, what do you give to the person who already has anything. So I look online for crafty christmas ornament kits from JoAnn or some other outlet and buy the kit and my MIL and my own mother get that and they love it because they only have to deal with it once a year and it hangs on the tree. So it's a win win in our family. One year the kids took glass balls and filled them with paint and swirled them around to make like a marbling affect inside the balls. That turned out pretty neat.

Nearly everyone of my friends have gotten a crocheted afgahn from me. I recently caught up with an old friend and the first thing she said to me is. "I used that afgahn until it wore out." I am in the process of making her a new one.. I hope they all appreciate the work I put into making them like my friend Claire!

I am kinda with you. Not a big fan of it. Although I know there is a lot of time and effort put in, but I am a very picky eater, so a lot of stuff that is homemade I really don't eat. (Unless it has chocolate in it....)
I don't mind getting homemade stuff, but only if it is something that I can use. Love all kinds of throws.
My mother-in-law is very crafty, and one time we got a little birdhouse made out of bark, wood and all sorts of other stuff you find in the fall.... it was very well made! And I appreciate all the time and work she put into it, but it is not something I want to put in the house.... of course hubby loves it, so it is sitting on a piano (she gave to us, and we can't play!!!)... Can't toss it out, cuz I will hurt people's feelings....

I prefer homemade gifts. IMO more thought and effort went into gifts that are made versus something you go out and buy.

I was brought up to be thankful and appreciate anything someone thought enough of me to give me, and was taught as child to NEVER tell someone you already have something they give you. I do love homemade gifts.  Some may not be perfect - but someone took the time to try and that is what I appreciate.
