I really like this little bit I had Klu Bits make me. It's chain mouth and it resembles the short shank sue smith bits the way the shank is. I would like to get a real Elliot Sue Smith bit just like it.

I have a ed wright chain and like how it is. There's a middle ring so they chain flexes both ways instead od laying just one way across if that makes sense. I have a molly powell chain that rides good too.

Just saw the molly powell that was posted. My molly powell is different, it's the shorter shank one with maybe 1.5 gag and the rope trim on the side.

Love the Paul Petska bits.   Have a great feel and seems to help one break at the poll, or it did my OTQH that was a little heavy on the bit.  They can come in medium or long shank, and can have a port too.

Paul has made 2 bits for me and the one I use now is a very short shank chain bit, very pretty and unique...if I remember, I'll get a picture...I also have one similar to this and it has great control and stop...

The chain mouthpieces are so soft and giving. Love the Mike Beers just for riding, but love the Molly Powells and Ed Wright chains for running barrels.

The chain mouth piece conforms to the mouth and many horses work well with a chain mouth piece.  You can use link chain which has more bite or the flat chain which is mild.

I have used chain bits, but I do consider them more of a harsh bit.

Les Vogt also has a demo on YouTube describing how chain bits are an aggressive bit.

All the links in the chain apply pressure to the tongue, when you pull it does conform to the mouth but applies/digs into the tongue and lips.

Horses will gape their mouth on single broken or three piece bits to evade the bit and get away from the pressure. With a chain gaping of the mouth doesn't alleviate any of the pressure.

Mylers have great descriptions on how bits work in the mouth as well

I own several chain mouth bits and love them all. My gray runs barrels in a chain mouth Rosie gag bit and poles in a Mike Beers short shank chain bit, and I ride my big fella Streak in a chain mouth Sweet Six part of the time.  The Mike Beers bit doesn't have any gag but it's only 6 inch shanks so it's not intimidating to a horse, yet you can shut one down in it. I've also got my boyfriend's chain mouth ported bit with 6.5 inch shanks and I like it when more control is needed. Clifford has run in it some - mainly in BIG pens when he gets a little too free.

Oooh!   That is a pretty bit with nice flat chains!

Thanks I really like this bit it sits so nice in his mouth , I have 6 bits that have chain mouth peices, When I buy any bit I check the mouth peices to make darn sure that there is no sharp edges any where on the bit and I check my chain mouth to make sure the links are smooth. But to the person that saying whats next Barb wire is kooky any bit will be hard in the wrong hands, I have seen many a horses with a messed up mouth because of the rider.
My horses do good in these bits because I have a light hand and they just seen so relaxed, I have a gelding that will chew on every bit but you put his chain mouth on and he relax's.

I have seen more mouths messed up with thin twisted wire mouthpieces. I have also seen mouths damaged by smooth mouth pieces, too. Our hands are the real weapon in my opinion.

Horses gap or open their mouth to try to get some relieve from pressure.  They will do this no matter the mouth piece.
