Anyone found any Energy Efficient solutions? My electric bill always triples when i plug those bad boys in... I can't do automatic ones yet either until we figure out how we are going to remodel the barn

I use some 500 watt ones in my smaller tanks and they work great up to about 50 gallons. They will get some ice if it gets way below zero but better than breaking thick ice.
have you used either one of these and seen a big difference?
YES!! I switched to the K&H 6 years ago!! Power bill went WAY down like to a 1/10 of what it was! The Cube is fantastic as it won't let it turn on till it is 40 degrees out!!! I use the cubes on the pickups plug ins too

I put mine on timers. In this "milder weather" *with my tanks inside the barn), I let them run for about 2 hours twice a day. The colder it gets , the longer I set the timer for. I started this with a heated water bucket that got too warm and horse would not drink the heated water.
