I have a mutton withered horse that my Crown C no longer fits. I was wondering if anyone with the same problem found a saddle that was a good fit

I'm going through the same thing with a mare I just got.  It's tuff.  I keep trying saddles and have yet to find one.  She's been on a diet too which I think will help.

Have either of you tried a Cactus Charmayne with the 7" gullet?  They have tons of flare.

What I have "heard" is the Crown C's are made for a more TB/appendix built type horse.  I would suggest two things - saddle with at least a 7" gullet and bars that fit that type of build (and I am told the bar fit is most important), and tightening your flank cinch so it is snug helps immensely with keeping the saddle in place.  Good luck!

My mare has no withers, I have a G Bar G and it fits her great, she use to hate being saddled because it would pinch her but now she is quiet and happy!

You were told wrong.

Crown c can customize their saddle to fit any type of horse.

My mutton withered horse is an 11 gullet with flat bars. It is the only saddle that doesn't move, doesn't hurt her, or cause her muscle atrophy.

I also don't shim it. I use a Csi pad

I am going through the same thing. Does anyone ride the Lisa Lockhart wide flex 2? I'm so frustrated, I would learn to like riding a pack saddle if I thought it would fit her.

The Lisa sored my mare up so much she became cinchy and cold backed. Her behaviour changed instantly when I threw the crown c on.

My opinion the Lisa is wide enough but has too much rock and with it being a flex tree the rock pinches, it also makes her hair curly where the gullet sides sit on her.

The Lisa works great for a wide horse with prominent withers

I have one and LOVE it :)

ETA - It has enough flare for large shoulder, a good wither, and a wide back. (my older mare) It also is working on my cutting bred filly that seems to be developing a mutton wither ...
