Based on reviews from people on this site I ordered the pentosan gold and platinum. I have not used it yet, just got it in the mail. One thing I don't like about joint lube is it has Bute in it. That is a little bit heavy duty for me. It has to be given IV which is fine but if you leak that outside the vein you will have very serious consequences.

Adequan and pentosan are very different drugs. Adequan works to rebuild cartlidge and soft tissue. Pentosan works to inhibit the arthritis process. My gelding already has arthritis so gets pentosan. My 3 year old is getting adequan as preventative. Monthly shots of adequan has recently been shown to not have much benefit.

How often is Pentosan given? Had great success with Polyglycan, but it's going to be an expensive step. I see people use combinations. I have used Adequan regularly for years but am going to switch to Polyglycan. Is Pentosan given monthly? How is it given and how expensive is it?

Pentosan is given IM weekly for 4 weeks then monthly thereafter. I also use polyglycan and I give 5cc every other week. Poly is about 90 a vial and pentosan is about 15 a shot.
