Location: California | I found what looks like a quality treeless saddle but is missing the oval shaped tagged on the back of the seat. It's obvious there was one there at one time. Looks almost new and doesn't look like cheap junk leather. It's at a pawn shop for $450. Any way to figure out what brand it is? Wondering if it's worth the gamble...
Also, I have a mutton withered round mare, would I need a certain pad? I currently have a Sensorflex. |

Location: texas | Circle Y makes a treeless barrel saddle, it has the oval tag in the back and an oval maker plate under chap flap...
there is a big difference in the Circle Y sports saddles and the Genuine Bob Marshall Sports Saddles.....
I have a 1998 BMSS and a 2003 BMSS, I also used to own a Circle Y back in early 2000's....
BMSS have a maker plate on the left side of the saddle, on the cinch strap holder, also BMSS went to a "serial number" system, they are stamped up under the chap flap, BUT they didn't start doing that until like 2000 or so and they changed the style of the maker plate.... The serial number that stamp under the chap flap is actually the invoice number when the saddle was ordered...
I ordered 3 within last few years and disliked all of them...
my 98 and 03 are smooth as butter and will never sell them....
As for ur original question, yes u can pick up a Circle Y Sports Saddle for $450, an BMSS no....
I posted a few pictures, my kids also have a tiny BMSS and its a 2003

Location: texas | as for the pad.....
I use all kinds, I tried a Saddleright and it was way too stiff and my mare pitched a fit....
I have a 1/2" best ever, I have a 1" ed wright, I also use 2 different sensorflex pads w fluffy fleece bottoms....
sports saddles are a complete different feel, will have to see what works best for u and ur horse.... and is supportive.....
my vet told me do not use gel or air pads......
but I rotate all my pads around....

I only took 1 not so great pic that I need to get off my other phone. There are no stamps or any other markers on it except the missing oval plate.
Teamthompson what color seat does the one the little girl is riding in have? Do you have a pic of it without a rider? |

Location: texas | Also, another "sign" that its a CIRCLE Y and not a GENUINE is that the back has the "leather patch" behind the cantle on the skirt, whereas a genuine is always "laced".....
And "typically" the older circle y sports saddle are basket stamp w tan seat, granted there are a few out there that may be custom color suede but like I said "typically" they are all the same......
keep us posted if u buy the saddle...... |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Thats a good buy for that saddle, If I had come across it I would have bought it, if I were you I would go put some money down on it, but first check the rigging on it to make sure all the nylon is in good shape. Like the the D's for the off billets and stirrups. |

Location: California | Didn't have time yesterday but I rushed all around today and got it done! The seat measured a 13 1/2 so perfect for me according to Bob Marshalls website and everything on the saddle looks pretty much new! The guy tried to tell me it was an original BM and I told him why it isn't thanks to all the knowledgeable folks here! :) |

LOL Leave it to BHW to prove someone wrong about their own saddle What did he say when you told him it wasn't an original BM? |

Location: California | He was fine with being corrected. I think he was going off of just seeing pics online. There is almost 0 evidence that this saddle has been used! The only reason they still have it is its not advertised anywhere, so unless you go in there you'd never see it.
My bf wasnt too keen on me putting a payment down on it. So as we were leaving he starts looking up other ones that were for sale, the cheapest one in the same condition that he could find was $950. I told him he should trust me more ;) |
