Location: British Columbia | I'm looking for a lighter saddle. I have a Martin and a Reinsman right now and both are pretty heavy(The Martin more so).
What are the lightest brands, would prefer to stay away from Double J.
Does anyone know what the C11 by Cactus weighs? |

Most barrel saddles average around 24/25 lbs. I assumed a C11 would be less because the skirt is almost not even there. Just looking for the lightest saddle, suggestions are appreciated. |

Location: Arkansas | Bottom line is that good leather is just heavier.. When they use a lighter leather, it is usually flanky and doesn't hold up.. When leather is light, it is thin and cheap and that's why your fenders curl up and your saddle falls apart.. Good leather will last a long, long time but it is going to be heavier.. When it comes to leather, good and light don't go in the same sentence.. Everyone would like to have the lightest saddle possible but that's why a really good quality, LIGHT saddle is so hard to find! :-) |

Location: North Dakota | I've got two Circle Y saddles. One I bought about 10 years ago and it's held up nicely. I think it's around 23 pounds or so.
I also bought a Lisa Lockhart this year and I think it was listed to be about 25 pounds.
My mom just bought a Circle Y Harlow barrel saddle. I believe it was supposed to be 19 pounds. She just got it this year and hasn't rode in it a lot yet, so I can't speak for the quality.

While this is true, Crown C's are heavier than a sack of bricks lol! I love mine, but my Eyes The Guy filly is not going to mature very tall and I'm trying to compensate a little and give her a lighter saddle.
I haven't had a Billy Cook in a long time, but I do remember them being lighter, no?
And as for the Lisa Lockhart, can anyone say anything for the quality? I've been looking at them online all night and they seem to be fairly low priced.
Thanks for the help everyone! |

I rode in a billy cook for years just because growing up I couldn't get my hands on anything else. They are super light, but the fenders curl and the jockey curls as well. Never had a problem with trees breaking but they would literally fall apart around the tree year after year. I had to replace my fenders every year because they would rip on the straps. I had to have my horn recovered every few years because it would unravel and the seat stitching popped off. Given, I rode in in every day for about 3 hours a day, but still. I had it for about 5 years and had to replace it after the screws started falling out. They are light and I love the trees, but they fall apart around the tree. |

| For the Lisa Lockhart, I have one and have used it a lot, it is 4 yrs old, still in great shape.
The leather is not the quality as the crown c, as I have a few of those too, but the leather is more pliable, it doesn't take long to break in compared to the crown c.
The Lockhart is substantially lighter then the crown c.
You are welcome to try/look at mine |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | You may have to get a catalog from the makers your interested in. I believe Billy Cook/ Sulpher offers an 18 pund round skirt. Should you decide to go composite, I recommend Big Horn for they are outstanding in the composite trees and the saddles are well made. |

Location: Woodstown, NJ | I have to have a light saddle. My favorite is my Bob Marshal Sports Saddle. I also had a Debra Sibley which was pretty light. Good quality, good service, and very pretty. I also have a Billy Cook from Sulphur and it's pretty light. I have never had a problem with the quality of my Billy Cooks like the other poster mentioned. |

Have you dealt with this person lately? I have 3 Masters saddles. The first two have held up awesome. The third came after Lonnie took over. It is a pile of crap. The tree is warped on one side. I called and left a message every day for three weeks. The last message was I was turning this over to an attorney. He called me back within two hours. We have had three phone conversations with him 'trying to figure out what address he wanted me to send the saddle back to'. This was three months ago and he stopped answering my calls. I want to send the saddle back and I want my money back. Do you know this person? |

Location: OK | If it was me, I'd keep the good leather, go with a lighter saddle pad and lighter stirrups if you can still keep your feet in them.
Keep in mind also, that bulldogging horses have to run hard, most of them are around 15 hh or shorter, and those boys ain't light. 5-10 lbs is always good to take off, but I wouldn't worry myself sick over it. |

Location: Illinois | I got my saddle in last Wednesday, the CJ C11 I ordered. It is so light! I would say it only weighs 15 to 20lbs. I love it. Very very comfortable and is very good quality. I would recommend them if you are looking for a lightweight saddle. |
