I just got a quote from UPS for shipping a saddle from Tx to Alberta and they want to charge me over $600!!! For ground courier! I known I've bought saddles before and shipping cost was around $150. They say they base the charge on the size of the box which would be like 34"x34"x34" and they say the weight for that comes out at $283 lbs!!! Even though true weight will be around 35lbs.
So....does anyone have a better lead for shipping than that?? thanks

You need to cut your box down. The size is killing you. Many people cut the size of the box down to where the saddle just fits.
True!!!! true true.... I used to build boxes to ship outboard powerheads.... and the size!!!! #$%$#^%%$#$$holes were always worried about a few extra inches!!!

I won't ship anything by USPS or UPS to a non business address in Canada. It can take 6 to 10 weeks for delivery I just shipped a saddle to Canada by UPS for $131.60

not everybody has a buisiness address....usps goes to the post office and ups goes to the co-op store(as that is the ups drop off point) most ppl that live rural have a post office as we dont get home mail delivered up here at all ever.............

I don't know what kind of saddle you're wanting to ship but that box would hold one for an elephant! lol My box is 26x19x20. That should ship most saddles - well at least for horses. I use usps quite a bit and never had one take more than about 2 weeks.

I've had saddles shipped by UPS from Texas to Manitoba and the cost was only $100 + Broker fees. It's the box size your shipping. You don't need 34" high for a saddle that's too much air space and the chance of it being damaged is high. Get them to pack it in the smallest box possible and you'll see a major savings.
You can go online and price UPS or FedEx and keep changing the box size until you see the price go down. Then see if that size will fit. The 34x34x34 will get you an oversize charge and they will bill you on the "expected" size of the box weight vs the actual weight.
Hope that helps.
Also keep in mind that you will be charged brokerage fees and tax on the saddle so factor that in to your price.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I ask customers for a business that they are friends with ie vet, grocery store etc, to ship to that address. I have had too many bad experiences shipping Postal out of the USA
