Who runs in this? jeffersequine.com is having a sale on them for only $29.99 I was just curious as to what people had to say about them and why they use it and what they like about it?

I ran my gelding in it. I'm not very good with bits but Ty Mitchel rode him and that's what he said to put on him. It's a pretty heavy bit and not for the light mouth horse.

I have one and I love it. The shanks on mine are not very long. It sits loose in my gelding's mouth (I do not pull the corners of his mouth up). I personally do not consider it a "heavy" bit. Just depends on the rider's hands. I am very blessed to have a horse that I do not have to do anything in my turns. He does better with a very loose rein in his turns.

Mine is the long shank. I may be wrong but I thought the longer the shank the harsher the bit? My gelding was always rode h a man and I couldn't pull him like he could because I was younger and wasn't strong enough so I got Ty to ride him and that's what he said I needed.

I have used it on 4 different horses and they are all different style horses. I used the long shank on an older, less refined horse when she was started as 12yo. I kept it on her when my daughters started riding her when they were little and not very strong. I still run her in it but could probably run her in a haystring now. She's 24 and just clocked one of the best times of her life (placed in the 2D with over 200 entries). I next used it on a really nice, agile mare that just had a little too much 'go' and needed more control at times. My 7yo mare runs in the short shank one but after being seasoned for a couple of years now could also run in a haystring. I keep this bit on the 24yo and 7yo just because they seem to like it and why change if it's working? After a disasterous, runaway type run at a 800+ race, I threw the long shank on my 5yo mare in September out of desperation. She protested the first couple of runs but then settled down and listens to me now. She's clocked in the 2D the last two runs so I'm happy. All of these horses went through several bit changes before settling in with this one. I don't ride in it much at home since we don't run at home. In one of Dena Kirkpatrick's videos she goes through several bits and said to not only match the bit to the horse but to match it to the rider also. I've come to believe that MY hands work this bit well. It has given me control when I needed it and if my horses are working I don't have to do a lot with my hands. These horses have been worked with several different pros in lessons or clinics and they haven't suggested any bit changes.
