No surprise. He was sending half straws and then blaming the vets on the other end when mares weren't taking. Took us 4 shipments. 3 were partial, the 4th was full and she took. Wonder if we and others luje us will be offered compensation for all those shipping charges and other fees?

Just curious.... Does anybody think there could be "Dash Ta Fames" out there, that aren't actually Dash Ta Fames? Doesn't seem terribly out of the question.

No. Because they are frozen semen all registered with AQHA require a DNA test.

That is beyond belief! That horse didn't make enough money?

No, there is no chance they aren't DTF's. They had this problem in the 80's when they first started shipping semen. Now that DNA testing is required on all AI's and frozen semen, they no longer really have a problem. Now if there's a clone... they have no way really if telling if the semen is from the original animal or if it's from the clone.

I have 2 DTF's, a 2 year old and a yearling out of my mares. We went thru Smart Ranches for both, the first cooled semen (just before DTF died) & the second one from frozen. Both took on the first shipment but I had a HECK of a time getting the registration paperwork on the now yearling. I talked to Swyers a BUNCH of times and it never showed up. Ended up calling Bob Burt and he was extremely helpful and sent my papers right away. I knew then something was weird but glad all mine worked out!

How sad that this great sire will have his name damaged by a crooked vet deal, or company...not sure who actually did the fraud, but anyway, very sad to me.  Sort of puts and astrist beside the last few years of his breding...
I know they DNA test, but it's just a cloud.  I have a couple of friends that told me they started getting half straws very shortly after his death, and their vet made a big fuss.  I don't know which ones caught quickly or not, but that was some time ago.

I think they can do a mitochondrial DNA test to see actually.

You should, they should tar and feather him and make him pay back what he stole. Whether or not they will, remains to be seen. I know a lady out $14K and another out $35K, neither of them got a baby out of the deal...

My understanding was they could, but it's very expensive and not that easy. Maybe someone with more knowledge on this can answer for sure.

figured something was up with this guy. Mare didnt get in foal, called bob the next year and he didnt have anything on file that I had paid for it.. Sent him copies of bank statement to swyers account.. Glad he figured it out. What a mess.

He must have been keeping the money on the mares who didnt check in foal and probably sending false semen inventory statements, and then using semen for personal mares. Crook !

He is crazy I sent my mare down there to get bred in March and he told me he couldn't get her to ovulate... Then he would call me or email me horriblely rude and elling me I needed To pay my bill... I never once got an invoice they you don't get her bred till may? The mare has never not caught..  He is crazy!! And he went crazy on my shoer because her feet needed to be done! I don't know how Tanya Jenkins puts up with him...

I don't think it will hurt dtf reputation at all.  We used one straw to get our 19 year old mare in foal this year.  Loved dealing with Bob.  I feel for all the owners that suffered from bad manager.  But his was not the only Stallion out there shipping bad semen. We did our research this year.  Hope all mare owners ask lots of questions. It paid off for us..

So this may sound like a stupid question, but as a mare owner, what questions do you ask?

Semen better fresh, frozen or cooled.   Is it better to take horse to the facility where stallion is standing if he is alive and it is feasible.  Which type pf AI is best.  ie. regular or deep horn

That's horrible!! I can't even imagine lying and stealing the littlest thing let alone DTF stud fees and records!!! Glad they caught it... It amazes me how if these people used their brains for good instead of devious plans, how different the world would be. He is definitely not dumb...

There was nothing wrong with the semen, just to clear that up. Dont want to start rumors that his semen is bad, its not.
