We are sending in a DNA sample sometime within the next month to confirm that this is my mare, and hopefully get her papers transferred.

But this whole ordeal got me researching bloodlines and im curious as to what you guys would recommend crossing her with?

It seems like you either love or hate the beduino bloodlines and need to be careful with the lines your crossing them with.

Not that I plan on breeding anytime soon but you never know :) I know she has had 2 foals already, one out of Folkway.

I would definitely describe my mare as hot headed, bipolar, and fragile lol! Pretty much fits a lot of the descriptions I have read online, but im not sure how much is actually her and how much is previous bad handling.

But she gives 110% at everything and theres something beautiful about how her mind works. Not many people can deal with her at my barn, but the few that can absolutely love her.

Would would be a good cross to "calm" the beduino

First Down Dash. He has been a super cross on all things Chicks Beduino and Beduino in general.

I would 2nd a nice FDD stud.  I have had Beduino's and have one now - this one is a Runaway Winner. I think it's less about "Beduino" and more about what experience ppl have with more sensitive TB mentalities.   I've had a lot of high TB appendix horses who are ding dongs.  My husband trains and shows cutters and he'll take an unpredictable Little Peppy-bred horse over my TB and high TB/crosses anyday and I won't ride his taste in QH's.

But that said, I also have a FDD granddaughter, Sour Mash Dash is her sire. She's got brains and the bod and speed...and a great work ethic.  If I could have my current Beduino and my FDD mare combined into one horse, it would be the perfect horse for me.

I don't have any experience with Chicks Beduino, but have heard that they're pretty fragile minded. I have a daughter of Vital Sign (who is out of a daughter of Beduino). This mare is very sweet and good minded. I have raised 4 foals out of her and they all have great minds as well. Vital Sign is by The Signature, and I have a couple of other mares that are The Signature breeding, and they have all been very good minded and raised foals that are easy to get along with.

I agree with the suggestion of crossing a mare like this on First Down Dash. If you look you'll find a lot of FDD crossed on Beduino.

I had a direct Granson of Beduino. He was the best Black Cherry Bay I have ever had. Super sweet and took care of children in his later part of retirement. He was a sweetheart and could flat out RUN. He had a heart larger than most and a will to give me everything he had every single run. That horse had the best mind and the best will to win for me that I think I will ever own.

His registered name was Bebitos (baby in spanish).. I'll get his papers when I get home and tell you what he was crossed with on his Mommas side.

I have a grandson of Beduino right now.  He can be fragile minded at times.  He is unlike any horse I have ever owned or ridden.  He can be spooky of some things but is great with others.  If he is sound he will blow the doors off if I ride him right.  If he is not he will let you know.  He will not do anything stupid but is just pretty quirky.  He is my go to guy when I go to the mountains, he will not put a foot out of place.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/lets+buck+up

I had one other Bedunio and after that one I swore I would never own another.  I have the current one up for sale and don't think I will go back to the bloodlines unless I have a lot of time on my hands.

Best horse I ever had was a daughter of White Tie who was by Beduino, and she was out of a daughter of Moon Lark.  She had the brains, speed and athleticism I expect of a horse.  She is also the one I measure all the rest of my horses against.

This is mine.  I love him to pieces, he has a super good mind and is really smart.  Love riding him, he picks up right where we left off even after a couple of days, there is no re-tracking.  He had a couple outs on the track but not enough speed.  Hoping he does well in the barrels.  Plus he is super fancy!!!

So far I just love beduino! Thanks for sharing pictures!

Would it be a big no to find a First Down Dash stud with some beduino as well? Just so the beduino isnt as "diluted" for lack of a better word

Not at all in my opinion. My stud was by Burrs First Down (FDD x Beduino daughter) I crossed him on my mares that were out of daughters of Runaway Winner-by Beduino, Special Leader (SE x Beduino daughter with some more Beduino on her dam's side), A Classic Dash daughter that is out of a daughter of Tolltac by Beduino.

And I would go with Firewater Finale with the ones you have chosen. I have a yearling by him and he is one of my favorite babies.

Are you wanting a baby to send to the track or run barrels on or both?
Just my honest opinions as a breeder:
TFAG-no I wouldn't breed your mare to him. As stated before, Beduino/First Down Dash is the magic cross. If you could find the best FDD son you could afford, compare the pedigree and conformation with your mare, that's the route you should take.
Firewater Finale- hell yes. I bred my proven race mare who is FDD/Beduino/Top Moon/Smoke N Sparks to him this year. The match on paper with him and my mare is incredible.

Beduino bloodlines will run their heart out for you if treated right.

just saying..

Also, your mare's Beduino is really so far back I don't think it matters. Bred her to what you'd like

GOOD LORD …. THIS IS AN OLD POST !!

BEDUINO bloodlines will put you up into the next level in the barrel pen ..

They have a hard fast turn and will gather and scare your pants off of you ..
This is the major reason barrel racers say bad things about Beduino's ..
You have to be in rhythm and a good rider to stay in the saddle!!

Great memories .. easy to learn the pattern … let them work the pattern
and don't nag them trying to get them to run with your 'STYLE' of riding.
Most can't run that slow … lol .. Once they learn the pattern .. keep them
legged up with pasture riding.

They are very docile and people horses and easy to get them to
do anything. The heavy duty bone structure, muscling and speed will
be very apparent for several generations on their produce.

JUST ASK HAILEY KINSEL …

DM SISSY HAYDAY
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dm+sissy+hayday

For your mare find you something with FRENCHMANS GUY
and DASH TA FAME to breed to … lots of stallions to choose from!!

May I ask what it is you don't like about Runaway Winner?u

I have a broodmare that is a granddaughter of Chicks Beduino. A family liked her babies so much they bought two. These people are not professional trainers and do very well with their two daughters. I think they would fight you for these two mares. Gentle, focused. They run in the 3/4 D at huge 5D barrel races.

My mare is Beduino on the bottom, but fairly far back. She's a great granddaughter of Check The Charts. She's crossed with Bully Bullion on top. Very weird horse, very quirky. Most of the time I'm convinced she's actually just a large dog, definitely obsessed with people. But she's just very weird, super smart but sometimes I think there's a screw loose. She's also 4 and a little mentally behind. But I think that comes from the Beduino and the BB, but I think once she matures mentally she'll be nice. Still will probably be weird, but nice. I'd definitely want to breed her to something with a little more mind & less run. I think Beduino horses take a special person, I've been around a few others that were a whole lot weirder than she is. A good friend has a mare that's a granddaughter of Check The Charts and she's also very odd. She's just fast loping & hits the 2D easy.

I have a daughter of Runaway Winner and crossed her on various stallions but the 2 Ivory James babies have been my favorite. Currently have a yearling colt x a FDD son who has an awesome disposition. Also have a daughter of Executive Menace who has produce a DFC futurity finalist. I have a yearling colt x a FDD son that's a full sibling to that horse and he's one smart cookie, also.

I strongly believe the environment plays a huge factor in the development of ANY horse and too many people treat them differently based on what their papers say vs what the horse needs bc they "heard" that certain bloodlines do this and that with no real experience.

I have a maternal granddaughter of Aze Beduino who is athletic as all get out but just a broodie (bought her aged). She's the nicest thing to handle and had a phenomenal colt by Jet Streakin a couple years ago that I wouldn't mind having a dozen more of.

I have a daughter of Executive Menace out of a thoroughbred mare. She's quiet, level headed and definitely not hot. I wish I could get my hands on her full sister. My mare had a 2018 Fly the Red Eye colt this year, and will be returning to the show pen this Fall. She's a great little all around horse.

I love Beduino's and have owned several; all of the good ones were by Runaway Winner, GREAT attitudes.  Lots of forward motion and love to work.  However, they have silly sides and holes, which requires patience, time and a great sense of humor.

I've known or encountered quite a few of the Chick's Beduino's that have a serious "I don't wan't to work" attitudes, which is no fun us or the horse.

I have an own son out of Rare Bar and out of an own daughter of Beduino. He had some sick speed and he was very kind. Never a mean bone in his body....sometimes he liked to see boogers but he would not hurt a fly.....EPM ruined him. I love him! He was bred and raced by the late Dr. Mitchell DVM of bristow….sure miss that man!
