I have a farrier that does an outstanding job. I'd like to get her something for Christmas to say 'thank you'. I was just curious what you all did for your farriers at Christmas time.

I'm not sure what I would do for a farrier that actually showed up when they said they would and didn't looked all cracked out when they did show up.......

It took me a while to find one that shows up AND does a good job, so I treat him as good as he will let me.

I've only had two farriers my whole life (got a new one when the old when retired) and we've always done something for them on the holidays, because they've both been great (return calls the same day, show up on time, put pulled shoes on ASAP, etc). Usually we give them cookies or a gift certificate to somewhere.

My mom is a hairdresser and I always liked when her clients brought her gifts cause they were usually cookies and candy which meant I got to eat some haha.

Not at Christmas time because I tip him most every time he comes out.  And - he lives right next door and his wife is a barrel racer too so I have them over for dinner and cocktails relatively often.  But I am putting a basket of goodies together for the two of them because they are wonderful people and great friends and neighbors.  It happens to be handy he is a farrier - and a dang good one!

I'm down to one horse so I tip him every time he comes out and I bake something for him about 4 times a year. He is just not our farrier, he's become a friend.

This year I will double my tip and bake him cookies.

I normally shoe 4 head every 6 weeks. I had one out this month getting a little tune up, so he only had to shoe 3. He slapped on fuel surcharge, for not having 4 head. I'd never seen before, it was enough to shoe the 4th. He left ruts in my yard, when I had texted him to stay on the drive. I think I'll cut him loose for Christmas.

Yes, I do.........in pork since we raise Berkshires and sell pork from the farm, we always give pork for presents. We live in an out of the way place and I always make sure I have at least $300 worth of work for him to do each time.

You've all had interesting responses. I've had several shoers over the years and have only had two that were truly awesome. When we lived in Middle TN our shoer was VERY efficient, did a great job, and was with always on time or he called when he was running late. My shoer now is the first female shoer I've ever met, lol. She & her apprentice have been taking care of mine and my folks' horses for several years now. She's always on time, does an excellent job and SHE calls ME when my horses are due. Needless to say she's fantastic!! Lol.

I tip mine every time he comes. He's always on time, he's great with the young horses or one's that are injured and require a little more patience. His skill set isn't the best, but it's far from the worst, and he's improved over the years. A good farrier is hard to find.

Yes! I always tip, mine shows up early, comes at a moment's notice, and is cheap. He also gives all of his clients awesome Christmas gifts. One year I got him NFR souvenirs when I went to the NFR, last year I got him a gift certificate for him and his girlfriend to our favorite steak place, not sure what I will get him this year....

I want to do something for mine. I love him so far. He has done great with my horses feet and has been very patient with my 2 hardly touched before I got them. I just don't know what to do. He has money. Like not lacking in that area at all. I'm not sure why or how lol but that's none of my business. I just don't want to look like a dummy giving a guy thats obviously much more well off than me, money. I like the gift card idea but then i think oh where should I get it for?

My usual farrier is out for an injury, but I typically buy him his favorite whiskey. The one that has taken over in the pinch, I'll likely get him a gift card.
Now...my vet came out on Sunday when one of our oldies (35) was colicing. He was here at 6 and got him comfortable. He had been working all day, so he ran home to eat and love on his new baby. The horse was uncomfortable @10, so he came back out, gave him IV fluids and stayed until 1:45 in the morning. I owe him the world, but I can't afford it. I'd like to get him something nice out of sheer gratitude for being there.

I always tip and that is why my farrier comes on time, does what I ask, comes at a moments notice and doesn't complain on if I only have one horse. I treat my farriers like gold.

I don't usually but this year I will.  It is extenuating circumstances.  AND instead of putting shoes all the way around everyone is going barefoot for a couple of months.  Again, because of extenuating circumstances, he will get paid what it usually costs for 3 sets of shoes, two fronts that are special, and a trim, plus a little extra.  I have an amazing farrier and I am lucky to have him and want to keep it that way.  My crazies almost got us fired this year and I want to stay on his nice side.  lol!
