Gah yea and a bunch of girls have started copying her :-/ Which is all good and fine if you have a properply fitted saddle. But 3 weeks ago at race a girl didn't annnnnnd her saddle slide back even with a back cinch and the rodeo was on.... |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Some horses won't stride out in the front with one one. They don't like the feel of hitting the straps. If your saddle fits, it's just jewelry anyway. I don't ever ride one on my gelding at home and have forgotten it a few times making a run. I do use one on my young horses every ride, to accustom them to it, and as a precaution for preventing a wreck. |

| Even though my saddle fits I'd feel like it was going to come off. Lol! Like showing up to work with no pants on kinda feeling.
She seems like a sweet girl. I keep hoping she wins a round! I thought this was going to be her year. Does she have a FB fan page? |

| I don't run with one and (knock on wood) haven't had an issue yet. At first I felt naked without one, but it's been a couple years and now it feels weird to use one.
I initially took mine off because I didn't really like how it was fitting my horse and felt like it wasn't doing much. Now it's just habit.

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | I don't use one on one of my horses either. I feel like it helps her stretch out and run better. She got cranky about her chest area and I didn't feel like she was running hard so I took it off and it's been working. |

 Balance Beam and more...

Location: 31 lengths farms | I quit using one on my gelding about 10 years ago. I had been having trouble with him stalling leaving the barrel, went to an Ed Wright clinic and Ed had put us in a short shank 2 piece smooth, it was taken at the moment and I was up next so I just had my reins looped under his neck and was warming up. When it was my turn I jogged over to get the bridle from the girl that had just finished. Ed says "I think we know why you are having problems with him stalling leaving...is there a reason you have to have the breast collar on him?" I didn't, it was part of the "outfit" LOL!!! Took it off and the stall was gone. Like Ed said, if I can literally get him to do a slide stop with just a rein around his neck, imagine the mixed signals he was getting from the breast collar. I do use it however at Pendleton because there I like to ride with my cinch slightly on the looser side. |

| I dont use a breast collar on my mare. She hates them. If I even start to bring one around the front she pins her ears big time. She wont run either. Strange... so I just stopped using one and havent had an issue. I do however use one on my other mare.
Speaking of breast collars it is amazing to me how many people inproperly utilize and fit them on their horse. They might as well not even have one on.

That's it. Her horse looked so bare-chested but wow could he turn a barrel.

| When Kaley did wear a breast collar it was by Cowboy Couture which is located here in Florida. They supply all of the award tack for the NBHA Fl State show and other organizations in this area, Renee does beautiful work. Cowboy does wear a Cowboy Couture headstall. |

They shouldn't be loose! The back cinch shouldn't hang down more than an inch or so when you're in the saddle. The breastplate, again, shouldn't be so loose that you can pull it several inches away from the shoulder. It also shouldn't dangle down more than a few inches between their legs. I just kinda eyeball it. |

Location: where ever my L/Q trl is parked | I use both... back in 2000 I believe- I was at a NBHA Super show riding a newer saddle with all new tack. The off billet ripped straight down from hole to end as I was coming around the 1st barrel. The saddle slid to the left and half way across, thinking the saddle just slipped and if I could balance till I got to the second barrel I could straighten up. Not, saddle kept going till I finally had to drop to the ground. The breast collar kept the saddle from going under my mare. I've always used one and the rear cinch although the rear has never done much. |

I don't remember Charmayne using one on Grasshopper when she ran in the American Rodeo this past March either. Could be some horses just don't like the pressure on their chest and shoulders. My old barrel mare didn't like a breastcollar. She wouldn't stretch out and run. Come to find out she had arthritis/bursitis in her left shoulder. |
