So all of this talk about bred this, bred that has me thinking about people like muah who cannot afford an own daughter or son of anything BIG. I want to see your horses that aren't bred to the hilt that still run with the "big boys"

I'm hoping by summer time next year my big boy with be running 1D times. Won 3D on him(with mistakes) the last time we went to a jackpot a few months ago and he will be turning 6 next year. I'd upload a picture of him if I could but this will have to do

I just wanted to comment that I think you meant "moi" instead of "muah".

"Moi" is French for "Me".

"Muah" is like the sound you make giving someone a kiss.

Not meant to be mean, but figured you may like to know :)

Mine isn't bred to anything but he's also not running anywhere close to the 1D.

BUT a mare my hubby trained and seasoned and ran for 10 years was never more than 3D with him. Tossed a much lighter rider on her and BAM she was a 1D powerhouse. She won and placed at quite a few shows, winning the entire 1D in a field of over 100 horses and setting that arena's new record. Too bad she had to be put down before anyone ever got to see her at the big shows. She was on track to give them a real run for their money.

She was Driftwood a ways back on top and Native Dancer a ways back on the bottom. That's it.

This mare has been real consistent 1D locally and placing in the 2D money at the big shows.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/skips+watch+jo+lady

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxa3k4Yyxac Here she is placing 2nd in the 2D with over 500 entries. She's pretty consistently good for a 15.1 at Perry. Just a nice mare!

This mare is 17 years and placed in the 2D out of 180 horses last month. She has been off since then due to the weather and my school. Back to legging her up as of yesterday. She has a few recognizable names in there, but they are fairly far back. She is a total firecracker!

This one could hang with the best in the country.
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/easy+primer+jet

This one could too, although he was a barrel hitter indoors so most of his earnings were rodeo and outdoor jackpots.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/three+for+luck

This one seemed like he either blew their doors off, hit every barrel in sight, or ran off.  Not much in between for him, but my Lord, he was talented when he wanted to show it.  http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/request+for+joe

All what I would consider well bred, but none were name brand.

This is "allegedly" how he is bred--papers were lost in a divorce deal...you know the whole song and dance.  I won several amatuer rodeo championships on him in Arkansas, and qualfied for the IPRA Southern Region Finals on him as well.  We didn't do many jackpots, but he placed in the 1D all three days at Barrel Mania in Memphis with 400+ entries each day, including the likes of Hotshot, Ryons Vapor Trail, What Fame, Dealem Tiny, and She's a Power Train.  Pretty much shut everyone up that said he was "just a rodeo horse" LOL

I have to post my sister's mare because she is probably the coolest horse ever in my book! She isn't convential bred or built to be a barrel horse but she has they coolest running style and has the best personality. She lopes around like a reiner and then will lay down a run and is a super sweet pole horse too! http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/seeking+colonel

This video angle doesn't show just how cool her second barrel is but you get the idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGGElkVhwzg&list=UU--W2mmtsJPj8m7xzCqA2ZA

Throw back to my mom's and dad's best futurity horse. They bought him off a guy that ran chariot teams in Rigby Idaho. Brown Strip was 12 years old when they bought him, sound after all those years running as part of a chariot team. A year later ran in the money at a open barrel futurity in Montana. (I was 11 at this time so not real sure on the name of the futurity). Mom did the training but since she was pregnant with my little sis dad did the jockeying.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/brown+strip

Loved this horse, gentle enough for me to ride outside at the time and had a great big heart!

I have a couple rodeo horses who aren't "name brand" bred up close but they can darn sure run with the toughs when things are going well for us.
My gray - Chance - won nearly $10,000 at amatuer rodeos and jackpots in the Midwest back in 2012, including a string of checks at 7 rodeos in a row in early July. He has won more than $1,000 at the Kansas NBHA state show each of the last three years, including a round win each year.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/harlans+dash
Clifford is my goofy blaze face sorrel who has all the talent in the world if we can dial his brain in consistently. He can outrun Chance anytime he wants, and he stands up on any type of ground you throw at him. He won over $1,000 at rodeos this summer, placing on good ground indoors as well as slick ground and sloppy mud outdoors.

My mare is bred well, just not in barrels! She's bred cutting. Didn't quite make it in cutting or reining, so we tried a different direction. She has only been to maybe 5 races, of about 150 runners, and she has been improving steadily. top of 3D last race. Hoping we will be top of 2D this Sunday. I think she will be my permit-filler...I hope. Her improvement every time we ride keeps me hopeful! She is super quick, only about 14.3h and super gritty. I hold her back most of the time! This Sunday my goal is to PUSH...not hold back! Haha...

He's got so much grit and fire that it's addicting. Unfortunately we are battling some lameness problems right now but we feel like in the next 2 months he should be 100% and ready to go again. He's a good solid 2D horse and I feel like he could make it into the 1D at jackpots with the right motivation. He may be a good rodeo horse as he really feeds off of the environment but, I want him 100% before we make that effort. I love my Hemi, he is so special to me and is SO MUCH FUN!

Then the 2nd one Tonka

He just took his first 1D placing AND win this summer. He's basically a puppy dog and would stand all day (as long as he didn't fall over) if you just rub his ears. He's a total smarty pants too! He's so quick to learn, we learned how to do flying lead changes on command in 20 minutes! He has some fancy stuff pretty close up but he isn't a direct son of a designer horse, though his stud is a pretty cool dude!

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/smashed+in+my+socks

ETA: we don't have any cool racing photos because I manage to have the absolute worst riding going on during any photo he looks great in! NEVER FAILS

My paint mare is bred for halter and cow with a little old run thrown in the mix. Not built the best but she will give me 1000% every time she runs. In 2010 I was going to brn4d finals and she had pulled a shoe. She was close to needing a new set anyways so I had my farrier at the time put new shoes on, when he did he hot nailed her and quicked her in all four feet. We didn't figure it out till if started warming her up for the first go. The get looked her over and said I can't figure it out take her over to the Shoer and have him hoof test her. She bout dropped to the ground when he did each foot. We pulled the shoes she was so bad in the front there was blood pouring out the nail holes. I was ready to pack up and come home. Vet and Shoer said wait we will pad her up tack the shoes back on and put some stuff called hoof freeze under the pads to help. Next day I was able to run her she fought with me the whole way because I wouldn't let her run. Now She's turning 11 in a month. And this last summer we finally figured out what her gate issue was. She was pretty sore in her hocks and she is a bleeder, I had never had her injected because she still ran the same pattern no blowing by barrels I always figured she was responding to my nerves at the gate. Then this summer a friends daughter was using her for junior rodeos and she bled out at the first one. Once that happened everything started falling in place. Since we got her injected and on Lasix, I haven't gotten to run her but my friends daughter ran her at a jackpot and hit the middle of the 2d. The last time I ran her she was in the middle of the 3d. then that was just a couple weeks before we figured it all out. Another friend borrowed her to and get her last few races in before her finals. The mare clocked even going to the right (she's a leftie and friend forgot). The next day she took her left and clocked in the bottom of the 1d. I am hoping one day to breed her and hopefully have her pass on her work ethic.

Here is my boy, he is not bred or built to be a barrel horse but I'll tell you what he will try his heart out and make the same run every time. He loves barrels and loves to work. He is the best horse I have ever had the chance to swing a leg over. He isn't the fastest guy in the world but I love him.

My sister's horse is/was a very competitive 1D horse. Made it to worlds and did quite well (can't remember where he placed for sure). He could be running in the 1D now still (he's only 12) but right now he's teaching her to run so they're clocking in the 4D on a good day lol.
My mare wasn't bred impressively but if it weren't for early retirement would have been very good. My main horse's grand sire is Dash for Cash. I don't know how competitive he will be, but his personality makes him worth his weight in gold, even if he never clocks at all.

Kenitas fun bar or better known as "will" is an 8 year old mare out of go Fun Bar. Her granddaddy had a SI of 102 . I know she has the potential to be a really nice open mare and has ran in the 1d several times but with school and life has gotten put on the back burner many times. Since I am done with school and will have the income I am planning on actually competing full time on her in 2015 and giving her the attention she deserves.

I've owned her since she was 5 and she has since become more lovey, but can have her moments lol

Also to add the harder thee ground, the more she loves it. She hates anything deep or sandy.

Ours are 3rd generation our breeding. Very happy to own the no name line of mares we have bred, raised and trained. We have been "lucky" with our line. I know the training part is a huge chunk of it but all my mares we show have heart and soul.  I have 3 All American Congress trophy's and jackets. Several saddles they have won (19 between my daughter and I). yada, yada, yada........

I don't own him anymore, but he was my first barrel horse. He was an untouched 3 year old stud when we got him from a breeding farm gone bad. The lady later lost all 50 of her horses after we bought Gunner. My husband and I broke him, I sent him to a trainer for 30 days, then ran him for a year (won a lot of tack and pulled some decent checks) and sold him to buy my current horse.

He is the story behind my name on here.

I consider him a 1D horse....this run he placed 2nd at NBHA Colonial Nationals in the Open Finals (against 900 horses?), among other 1D stats/runs.

This is my guy 16.2 and bred for HUS. I get many compliments from dressage trainers and Western Pleasure folks. He can run in the 2D at the big races when he's on and likes the pen, he's hit the bottom of the 1D once or twice but most consistently is 2D/3D. My nieces love riding him and my non-horsey family loves him. He's very special to me and saved my love to run barrels. I cant imagine running anything else now.

I don't race this mare anymore, but she was took me all over the place. Top 15 in Flags at State Fair, 3D Youth Top 10 in IBRA (almost got 2D Top 10 too, but we stopped racing a few months before the year ended and placed 11th). Plus she took me all over 4H, and we won High Point Senior for 4 straight years. She is pretty unimpressive lines-wise, but she is beautiful to look at, won halter about every where I took her.

My gelding was bred on a halter farm down south but was too ugly to halter. Basically trained himself to run barrels and is darn good at it!

She sure as heck got around that 2nd barrel as fast as possible!

This was my old boy Beau. (breeding stock paint)  While he had decent papers overall, nothing was really "barrel racing".

I had to put him down a few years back, but he really found an "extra gear" when he was about 11. (Probably would have caught on faster, if I had known what the heck I was doing at the time......)  At local jackpots, I started winning the 1D when before that he was usually at the top of the 2D. I never had the opportunity to take him to a big barrel race or any amateur rodeos, so I just always wonder how good he could have been.

He was super, super honest. He only knocked over one barrel in his entire career when he just barel caught his nose on it on the backside.

He was a real pretty-looking horse too. People always remembered him. Pictures don't really do him justice, as he was a looker! (And big. Just a hair under 16.1 hands)

I will play.  I have two.  Mystic is rodeo veteran's Baby Faith's momma.  We got off track a bit for the last year and a half until about June and then we started to really put it together and she just keeps getting faster and quicker with every ride.  Thanksgiving weekend was our last trip down the alley until probably April or so (winter break is 3 months for all of my horses this year so it will take a bit to get back in shape) but she ran in the 2D against crazy good horses and 400+ riders.  She is just going to get better.  I think since June she has won me almost $2k.  She is my dark bay mare (that looks black).

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/mystic+mayhem

And then my Lilly Lou.  She is 15 hands on a good day, with a leg that likes to "swim" and is half crazy when she is feeling 100%, which hasn't been in a while.  It has been one thing after another, including a surgery last year.  But she got a full year under her belt this year and started getting into the 2D at big barrel races.  I think all in she won close to $3k this year.  The mare has a serious knack for getting in money.  Well they all did this year.  It was crazy.  I think when she is 100% feeling good she will be wicked.  She is a VERY hard ride and I get bruised after every run from her throwing me around like a ping pong ball (it doesn't look like it on video but it sure feels like it) but man is it fun.  She is the sorrel, full TB, believe it or not.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/kicking+lilly

I would post Salty  (tilt's horse) but she doesn't qualify for this post. She has some great bloodlines and is SOOOO pretty...it's hard to not put a picture of her up here.  :)

My little mare that I trained. She went wide on that third, but I also had forgotten spurs that day haha! But she just gave her little heart. She won me a few buckles and such, but never ran at big shows...But just good little mare ( 14.3)
