A friends daughter contacted me today to let me know her mothers favorite horse had passed away.  He was around 30 so it was expected eventually but he'd been in pretty good health for his age.  She wanted ideas to memoralize him.  She is a phenomenal artist herself. She mostly does oil paintings but can do other mediums just as nicely.   Neither of the 2 ideas I had are options.  They've already buried him and didn't keep any mane or tail hair so that wasn't an option and they buried him in the middle of their hay field so having her do an artistic headstone won't work either.  Any other ideas?  I'm drawing a blank on this.

Back In The Saddle has some horse memorial stones.  I've ordered a couple from them for friends in the past.  They are really nice.

I did a shodow box with He and I being silly together and one of us running the pattern. I know you can't do it entirely but I put in a piece of his mane, a shoe, his halter with his name plates on them and lit the shadow box on the inside.

Look at the memorial exhibits at the AQHA Hall of Fame and it will give you some ideas for a shadow box.
